How To Get Rid Of A Rash Under Breasts

by Top10HomeRemedies Team

A rash under the breasts is a very common problem. It is mostly a form of irritant dermatitis and is called intertrigo characterized by inflammation of skin folds.

The most common causes of breast rashes are excessive sweating, heat, lack of air circulation, and wearing an ill-fitting bra that rubs against the breasts. Thus, factors like hot, humid climate and obesity contribute to this problem.

The condition may also be accompanied by yeast or other types of fungal infections as the warm, moist environment harbors the growth of germs.

Sometimes it can even be due to some kind of allergic reaction or an infection of the breast tissue due to breast-feeding. It can cause red patches, a burning sensation, itchiness, dryness and great discomfort.

You can try some simple natural remedies to get relief from this problem. Also, consult your doctor, especially if there are signs of infection.

how to get rid of a rash under breasts

Here are the top 10 ways to get rid of a rash under your breasts.

Contents

  • 1. Cold Compress
  • 2. Cotton
  • 3. Vinegar
  • 4. Cornstarch
  • 5. Coconut Oil
  • 6. Calamine Lotion
  • 7. Tea Tree Oil
  • 8. Aloe Vera
  • 9. Garlic
  • 10. Lemon

1. Cold Compress

A cold compress can relieve many of the symptoms like itching and burning sensation caused by rashes under the breasts.

  • Wrap some ice in a thin cotton towel and put it over the affected area for five to 10 minutes. Take a break and then repeat.
  • Another option is to apply a skim-milk and cold-water compress using equal parts of both the ingredients to relieve itching and reduce swelling.
  • Also, try bathing with cold water. It will help close the skin pores, thus reducing sweating and the appearance of the rash.

2. Cotton

The best way to deal with a breast rash is to reduce the accumulation of sweat around the breast area.

  • Place a thin piece of cotton between the lower part of your breasts and the skin underneath to absorb moisture and create a barrier. You can also use soft paper towels or dinner napkins.
  • Also, wear lightweight clothing, preferably made of cotton or natural fibers that help absorb moisture and keep your body sweat free.

3. Vinegar

At times, the chemical residue present on your clothes can cause a breast rash. Vinegar can help solve this problem.

Advertisements
  • Mix one-half cup of white vinegar in half a bucket of hot water. Use it to wash all your bras and dry them in direct sunlight.
  • Another option is to apply apple cider vinegar on the irritated skin. Wash the infected area with mild soapy water, rinse with cold water and pat dry. Mix one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water and apply it to the affected area. Do this two or three times daily. If it causes discomfort, stop using it.

4. Cornstarch

Cornstarch is highly effective for alleviating the itching and burning sensations associated with a breast rash. It helps keep the skin dry. In case of a fungal rash though, simply use talc as fungi feed on cornstarch.

  1. Clean the affected skin with soap and water, and then pat dry with a towel.
  2. When the area is completely dry, lightly dust cornstarch over it.
  3. Do this at least twice daily until you completely get rid of the problem.

Note: Do not apply cornstarch on moist or wet skin as it will increase the risk of fungal infection.

5. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has a soothing and healing effect on skin that helps provide relief from rashes. Plus, due to its greasy nature, it will help reduce friction that causes rashes under breasts and also avoid infections, thanks to its antibacterial and antifungal properties.

Simply apply some extra-virgin coconut oil on the affected area and allow it to absorb completely into the skin. Do this two or three times daily until the rash is gone.

6. Calamine Lotion

Calamine lotion can be used on a breast rash to provide soothing relief from itching and speed up the healing process. It will also helps keep the area dry and thus reduce the chance of infection.

Advertisements
  1. Clean the affected skin with a mild soap and lukewarm water. Pat dry the area with a towel.
  2. Use a cotton ball to gently apply the calamine lotion.
  3. Repeat several times a day.

7. Tea Tree Oil

tea tree essential oil

Tea tree oil has antifungal properties and hence it can be used topically to treat a breast rash. It will also prevent the growth of fungus and infection.

  1. Mix six drops of pure tea tree oil in four tablespoons of olive oil.
  2. Dip a cotton ball in this oil and apply it on the rash.
  3. Massage the area gently so that the oil penetrates deep into the skin.
  4. Do this right after taking a shower and again before going to bed. Usually you can notice positive results within a few days.

Note: Using tea tree oil straight on your skin without diluting may cause skin irritation.

8. Aloe Vera

aloe vera

Aloe vera helps soothe the itching and burning sensation caused by rashes under breasts. It also helps heal the skin and has antibacterial and antifungal properties. You can also combine it with turmeric as it has antiseptic properties.

Advertisements
  • Extract fresh aloe vera gel from an aloe leaf and apply it on the affected area. Leave it on for at least 20 minutes. You need not wash it off.
  • You can also use aloe vera gel mixed with a little turmeric powder. Leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes before washing it off.

Use aloe vera a few times daily on your skin until the rashes heal completely.

9. Garlic

garlic

A rash under the breast area can be easily treated with the antiseptic and antifungal properties present in garlic.

  • Soak a few garlic cloves in one-half cup of olive oil overnight. The next day, apply this oil on the affected area and leave it on for a few hours before washing it off. Use this remedy three or four times a day to get rid of the problem. Instead of this oil, you can also use crushed or pureed garlic cloves.
  • Also, increase your intake of garlic in raw or cooked form to speed up the healing process.

10. Lemon

lemon juice

Lemon juice contains vitamin C, which is a powerful antioxidant and helps prevent the growth of fungal infections and speed up the healing process.

  • Dilute one tablespoon of fresh lemon juice with three tablespoons of water. Apply it on the affected skin and allow it to air dry.
  • You can use a mixture of two tablespoons of lemon juice and a little raw honey on the rashes. Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes and then rinse it off.

Repeat either of these remedies twice daily for a few days.

Additional Tips

  • As this problem is common in those who are overweight or obese, it is suggested to lose excess weight.
  • To reduce friction that causes the rashes under breasts, apply greasy topical ointments.
  • Wear clean, dry bras made of breathable fabrics like cotton. Avoid improperly fitting bras and bras made from synthetic fabric.
  • Wear light clothing, minimize moisture, remain in a cool environment, and avoid irritants.
  • Launder your undergarments carefully.
  • Check if you are allergic to the cosmetic and hygiene products that you are using.

I use cheep diaper rash cream under my breasts when hot out, it stops me from hurting from sweat . I also use cheep diaper rash cream for my groin area when sweating or better yet , if you know it will be a hot day , put it on first thing in the morning to prevent any redness that hurts. I been doing it for a very long time. and other people doing it with great results too.

Under my right breast is now always itching and nothing I try seems to work. Not deodarant, nystatin, not antibiotic creams, powder, nothing like this. My other breast is fine, unless I sweat(I am big busted and sweat when hot but nystatin always helped this) this right one just constantly itches even after cleaning. I have also noticed a bit of peeling under it but I have no lumps or anything under there, or under my arm. Why is it doing this and what can I do? It is so irritating! Ty all.

Same with me …70 years old and heavier busted than I was years ago …it is usually my left breast under skin which is affected …I have been using sudocrem (nappy) cream …just can’t wear a bra at the moment. I use good quality cotton bras, but the underband is almost always nylon

I’ve also heard that your symptoms could possibly be related to breast cancer so you might want to ask the Dr. Especially if it’s one breast. Sorry to make your worry but better to be safe! God bless!

        • Kathy says:

I have already had breast cancer and this problem is much worse under the breast that was treated with radiation so there is scar tissue involved under that side. I have used baby powder which works if I remember to put in on every day. When it flares up I use Aquaphor overnight and calms it down….at least for a while. I have not tried the antiperspirant but I do have virgin coconut oil at home so I will try that as it is antibacterial and soothing. I have NEVER heard nor experienced any rash prior to my breast cancer (nor has my mother) so this doesn’t sound right and I wouldn’t consider it a symptom of breast cancer. There are enough signs without making some up.

After trying a number of things including Dermatologist prescriptions which were never permanent cures I’ve discovered that a medicated powder (Cuticura to be specific ) has cured it & kept it away for 2 years. Ordinary talcum powder did not accomplish this.

    • Charza says:

Ladies, self medicating is tricky business. Like the article says, there are lots of reasons for breast and body fold rashes.

      1. Is it yeast (fungal) or something else?
Tell tale signs of yeast infections include white discharge, peeling or flaking skin, and a definite yeast-y odor. You can’t always tell at the beginning of symptoms, though.

It is best to assume it is a fungal or yeast infection first, since treatments that work for other causes make yeast infections worse like using suggestions below which include sugars (mouthwash or milk) or things that convert to sugars (like cornstarch or burnt flour)

      2. Good basics:
      a. Be careful with the skin, since usually these things get a foothold through damaged skin…like when your bra is too tight, your loofah is too rough, or you scratched while hot and sweaty.
      b. Wash with gentle, hypoallergenic cleanser. Use a soft, fresh cloth or your clean hands, only!
      c. Dry with a hair dryer in your skin folds, medium or cool setting, or use a fresh towel and pat thoroughly dry
      d. Sleep easy. Ditch tight clothes, and go commando…no undies or bras.
      e. use diaper cream or vaseline as a moisture barrier.

      3. Fungus-y things
      a. Fungus hates light, cool, dry and acids. It is hard to keep those conditions going on the inner thighs, belly folds or under boob!
      b. After washing the areas, apply a gentle acidic solution. There are lots of suggestions below. Vinegar & water blends (drug stores have anti ear-fungus drops which are vinegar and water drops in safe-for-skin ratios…just use a capful of household white vinegar in a large cup of water, swab area with a dipped cotton ball), anti-everything wash like betadine (it works but it stains, so use in the shower and rinse well), some cleansers, and yes, the usual anti-fungals like monistat, bag balm, spray ons from the dollar store.
      c. lay back, and give your self some air time. While flared up, lay on the bed before you get dressed, lift the ladies and give your skin 10-15 minutes of air when you can, preferably in a nice, sunny room. Or blow dry, that works well but not nearly so relaxing.
      d. Clean undergarments, every day, should be cotton if you can find some. If not, the tube T-shirt ring, feminine pads, small cotton socks, etc., tucked where needed to keep skin off of skin. Absorb moisture, stop the chafing.
      e. If this doesn’t give you relief in a day or two, take a look at dermatitis-y things,

      4. Dermatitis-y things:
      a. Many of the same rules apply, but you swap out mild acidic solutions for cortisone. A ‘sporin ought to do the trick.
      b. If the rash is sudden, spreading beyond sweaty areas, comes with any kind of fever, ect., check with your doctor.
      c. Look for anything in your diet or detergents. Food allergies can cause skin to go crazy. Hand soap, clothing you bought but didn’t wash before wearing, shampoo, laundry soap, new formulas (new and improved!) in things you were already using, dish soap, dishwasher soap…etc.

Final note for both, diaper creams or Vaseline as a moisture barrier is a great idea when you’ve done your treatment for the day.

If all else fails, ask your doc to check you for non-C Albicans fungal infections. I’m thinking of the folks below who have tried everything. They don’t always look for these other strains of yeast infections that don’t respond to the usual medications. You need tougher stuff.

Also, if the rash shows up around your head anywhere, consider that you may have an adult version of cradle cap…unfortunately, that will require medical intervention to clear up.

      • Kathy says:

BEST response I have read. Some I have tried…some I have not but at least I’ll know what to try next to find the best solution. I never had this problem as bad until after radiation burns from breast cancer (7 years ago). I wouldn’t scare people by saying that this is a symptom of breast cancer…like a previous posted comment did. There are many signs but annual mammograms are still the best way to be proactive. I’m get alternate mammograms and MRI’s every six months.

I have terrible problem with heat rashes under my.breasts. It’s from being older and my breasts sagging more. I have tried cooling bras, other bras, powder , you name it. I’ve spent so much money. I’m at my wits end and don’t know what to do. One suggestion that also helps is holding your breasts up with no bra just bare so air can flow under the breasts. Maybe while you are laying I bed at night. At least 10 minutes. It helps alot. I’m ready to go to a dermatologist.

    • meghan says:

Regular antiperspirants that contain aluminum are linked to breast cancer. I don’t even use it in my armpits so I wouldn’t suggest this. Your body needs to sweat.

      • AllyR says:

Actually that’s an old wives tale, antiperspirant and breast cancer have absolutely no link.

    • girliegirl2012 says:

I tried the deodorant under breast for sweating–it broke me out into a rash. Only under one breast. It’s crazy, because it doesn’t cause a problem for my underarms.

    • Gadget says:

I asked my doctor about using antiperspirant under boob and he said DEFINITELY NOT. Antiperspirants contain aluminum which can increase breast cancer risk. Generally women who have had breast cancer are advised to use a natural or non aluminum underarm deodorant.

      • Angela says:

If you are wary of over counter fungal creams or are not sure it’s fungus….try organic no flavor yogurt. Mine is not fungal and gets to point that my skin breaks open from one side of underbreast crease to other.
I’ve found that tea tree oil is only thing that ever comes close to drying it out. Once dry it is still red and skin is flaky and thin. Next bra wearing leaves new sore. I’m not obese but have large breasts. Only help is binding them so they don’t touch the skin under them.

    • kathy says:

I will get this rash when it is hot and I sweat, To clear it up, wash with soap and water and then allow to dry completely. Use diaper rash cream and spread a thin layer on all areas affected. This should clear up the problem. In the summer put on a thin layer and it should prevent reoccurrance.

      Dear Betty,
I know it’s been a year since your post, and I hope you have found a good remedy. Your skin is thinner than most sufferers and I’m sure your doctor loved prescribing you all kinds of temporary relief… We all know too well that with this insurance fiasco that everyone needs immediate attention and get so down and out with the beuocracy nonsense! Advice for those over 64 is to follow the same estimate given to those suffering from diabetes 2. Get plenty of vitamin D to help the healing process. Change our diet like theirs too. Degree deodorant is the best to keep dry, but then you’ll get too dry. That’s when you use strong antifungal creams like athletes foot. And like your mother and grandmother before you, vinegar becomes a new best friend for almost anything. Heck add cream of tartar powder and make a paste. It’s cheaper and as funny as it may sound, it will also clean stubborn stains on everything from fabric to burned pots and pans. (Even jewelry). Listen to your body. You may be craving cinnamon, pineapples, bananas, and even spicy Indian foods. Cinnamon sticks (not the ground powder because it becomes slimy) is good in your hot drinks – lowerrs your blood sugar and pressure. Blueberries produce oxygen in your blood and helps good cellular growth. Pineapples cleans out the toxins. Cumin and tamaric and bay leaves spices also good for your body in various forms. Cut of from all processed foods. Cut back on soda’s and crystal lite drink mixes. More vegetables like zucchini, tomatoes and onions. Bless you dear and good luck.

I didn’t have anything to put on my rash and it was itching like crazy. I found some orajel severe pain formula in my medicine cabinet, and rubbed it on the redness. Within seconds I stopped itching, and burning. I felt such a relief. Its been about 45minutes and its still working.

Gold Bond medicated powder works wonders for more than feet. Vet recommended it for our dog’s ear infection which was a yeast type problem. Works under the breasts and between toes. up until fairley recently every woman and lots of men used bath powders to absorb sweat and stay dry, don’t know why they have fallen out of fasion, except that big pharma and cosmetic companies can make more money out of selling all the creams and cures for itchy skin caused by dampness.

    • Dawn says:

      • Angela says:

        Brenda,
Do you have cracks like I do from the rash. Mine can get very deep and rum entire length under my bteast. If so, avoid gold bond, deodorant on rash. Use organic yogurt….which may still burn
Rinse and wash soon after with certified organic soap. Air dry and use tea tree oil…which will burn but will dry it out. If you must wear bra ou, I do am large breasted but not overbese, try ace bandage to bind breasts such that they can’t lay against the delicate and sore skin underneath. If this is an unremitting problem, some insurance companies will pay for breast reduction if you are willing to go that route. You can add lift as well on your own dime. Which is my goal.

Okay, I used to get it so bad, I swear it was so hot underneath my breasts, it would get red and painful, like a welt. This is what works for me.

    1. prevention: vaseline to protect the skin from the sweat, just like diaper rash.

Ive left events because of the itching and discomfort. After trying EVERYTHING I could find online, even the $50 austrialian breast rash cream, I discovered I had the cure in my pantry. COCONUT OIL!!! Ita stopped the blistering and ofensive odor. I soak cotton balls in it and carry in a ziplock bag when travelling, just incase. Its not cured the problem completely, but has greatly diminished the severiy and with regular use, the rash is all but gone.

I have a heat rash under my breasts – doesn’t hurt, doesn’t itch – and have gotten rid of it in about 48 hours by doing this: Use Desitin (or some other baby rash cream) in the morning over the affected area. Then at night, powder with Gold Bond medicated powder. It’s almost cleared up completely in two days. Good luck, this worked for me and I’m really grateful.

Make sure it’s not a yeast or fungal infection because a lot of these home remedies make it worse if its fungal you have to be very careful cornstarch powders have a sugar base in them and fungus feeds off of sugar. Look up Candida it might be your condition instead of the heat rash. Hard to diagnose you might need medical treatment to cure this. Seek Dr’s afvise

  20. Cel ken says:

I also get those rashes from working out and sweating,! I really think the yeast in your body is out of balance! Candida so work on eating less foods with yeast! Try yeast free diet for a while! And yes wash and keep the area clean and dry at all times. Anti fungal cream like nystatin is the best but needs a prescription. Also try rolling up soft cotton tissues or napkins and keep them under the breasts to absorb any moisture!

  21. melissa says:

Often these rashes are yeast related. When I develop one I use a yeast infection mediated cream and it clears it up. However, it is also important to treat your bras or the problem will keep coming back. Wash your bras, either by hand or in the washing machine, and add one small cap full of tea tree oil (its strong stuff, don’t overdo it) to the water, clears everything up! I also do this with my underwear anytime I have a vaginal yeast infection.

I’ve got hives, they’re spreading. I’ve got almost a purple rash that’s peeling the skin off and it’s blood red with severe itching and burning. I woke today and it’s now under the other breast. My husband got antifungal/yeast infection cream and so far, the pain is gone and I got a cooling sensation. I use Gold Bond BODY POWDER not foot powder to prevent this and it does work. It’s a hard product to find. I have to get it a Walgreens usually. The powder actually comes in a spray too but when I’m broken out it hurts to use. I also find taking a very soft tube sock (very clean of course) and simply tucking it between my bra and breast helps with pain, keeps the area dry and helps with itching. I don’t like using paper, it curls up and can drop out of your shirt. I’m currently taking a cotton ball and straight antiseptic to it right now because it’s so bad to kill any bacteria. It hurts/stings like crazy but it does dry things up right away.

I swear Im not trying to be funny! I lived all summer at a campground in my camper. This rash happened to me. I knew that it was from sweating so much and my bra irritating it. I also went to dr. got creams that didnt work, tried antifungal creams and put a soft pieco of cotton cloth between my bra and skin. That helped but I was absolutely miserable. Now, I dont know how perfect your bodies are in but Im not heavy Im 5″6 weigh 150, BUT I have had 4 kids and am 54 years old so I finally realized (after trying to just go without abra) that until I got my boobs up off the sore ares that nothing was going to work. Moisture just made it worse. So I bought some generic antifungal powder and put that on after I showered then I (dont laugh) used masking tape at bedtime to keep my boobs up where they use to be before children. About 3 nights of that and mine went away, and mine was so bad that the red was shiny!! I blamed my kids for that one.

    Grab a can..
When you get home, spray under your breasts.

It’s going to burn. But I PROMISE you. This will give you relief QUICKLY and for a LONGER period of time.

I tried gold bond. .itching was persistent. .
Tried oil after shower.. helped a little.. but I’m used to having very fine breasts. . And without that cheap anti fungal jock spray they would not be at their current glory…

2 days ago i noticed a big rash under my breast so i searched about and i got info that its a yeast infection. So at first i tried the turmeric solution it worked well but later i found that my dad have BETADINE Antiseptic ointment for bactericidal, virucidal, fungicidal and sporicidal. It work really well in less than 24 hour the rash and the red spot are gone. I used it 2 times a day after bath.

I have suffered with the moisture and irritation of under the breast rashes for years (since I began running). Now, as the warm weather is coming on, I decided to jump the gun and get some relief before the irritation becomes unbearable. In the past I used ‘Bag Balm’ antiseptic ointment (a greasy vaseline type ointment made for…cow udders between my breast and sports bra. It worked well, but ruined my expensive bras.Today, I bought the diaper rash cream ‘Penaten’, and bought a Bali no under-wire bra to wear around the house to give my breasts a bit of ‘lift’ off my abdominal area. The relief was nearly immediate. Not only does the white cotton bra absorb excess moisture, but the Penaten form a barrier between my skin and any moisture. Also, the bra is so comfortable and soft, I can sleep in it. Bali has ‘prettier’ bras with the same basic structure which I’m sure would work for a night out with a bit of drying/anti-itch powder.

As the hot weather comes on, I may consider a Monistat type remedy if need be, and perhaps a drying/anti-itch powder (like Gold Bond) should my present ‘fix’ not hold. But for the time being, a cotton bra (no wire, but with a two inch or so band beneath the breasts to keep them ‘elevated’, and the barrier cream gave me near immediate relief). During exercise a good sports bra (not too tight) with moisture wicking properties should do the trick. I believe this is a ‘trial and error’ type situation, as we all have unique bodies and situations. For me, the common sense ‘no moisture’ and ‘lift’ is a good place to start. I wish you all luck, as I know very well how aggravating this condition can be. Also, if OTC tinkering doesn’t provide reasonable relief within a reasonable time – PLEASE see your Dr.

    Good luck!

Hi Linda! This is how mine started! For the past couple of years I noticed (during summer) that under one breast in the crease it was bright red & seemed to be ‘cut open’ like. But for the past several months I’ve been in agony! It started out the same but it got worse with bumps, redness & extreme itching under the breast & in the middle. My Dr said it was yeast infection & recommended a cream, Lotrimin. I don’t apply it more than once daily so it’s not helping! But after reading the other statements I believe I’ll start applying it as directed! I was also sleeping in my bras. Good Luck everyone!

I used to have rash issues under my DDs. I don’t exactly remember what I used to treat it, but I do recall that, even when I had the rash, I used Shower to Shower powder underneath my girls. The rash cleared right up. I use Shower to Shower powder every day and this keeps all rashes & irritation at bay. Once, I used some off-brand baby powder instead of Shower to Shower, and the following day I had irritation underneath my boobs. I went back to Shower to Shower because nothing else, in my experience, absorbs the moisture as well. It can be a little hard to find, even at chain drugstores, but it’s always in stock at my local K-Mart. Hope this helps!!

I think this kind of rash is called Intertrigo. I get it every now and then (particularly during hot summers). Intertrigo is a rash that you get in the folds of your skin. I have had this rash for months; under the breasts and right between my lower stomach (sorry, I have a stomach roll). Dermatologist said this is like a yeast infection; very common for living in FL because of the humidity and put me on hydrocotizone 0.2 and Ketoconazole cream 2% which was definitely helping but not completely resolving the rash. Started in December and dr. gave me 3 refills. Went to refill and price of prescriptions went from $8 to $52 for hydrocorizone and $8 to over $35 for Ketoconazole; outrageous! Thanks for everyone for your input to alternatives because can’t afford this craziness for prescriptions. I see several alternatives I can try that won’t rob my purse!

    LADIES…. I HAVE THE ANSWERS:
I work in entertainment with actresses and use this on myself: 100% works!

SUMMER’S EVE- FEMININE DEODORANT SPRAY- In any scent or no scent…I have read all the above posts…Had this issue since my “girls” have grown to a 36H- I am not fat- and in athletic shape and always on the go and my boobs are NEVER DRY under the bra. HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO- I figured it out and it works perfect!
1- Before getting dressed in AM: Use Summer’s Eve Deodorant Spray Under Your Breasts and between you groin/thigh area. (why not keep this area dry too right!)
2- Enjoy the clean scent of the Summer’s Eve (your choice in scent)
3- Grab a couple paper towels (Preferable the kind that tear in 3 sections)
    4-Put on your bra
5-Place a section of the paper towel under each breast- (scrunch it up and you stick it up there) this creates a barrier between your skin and your bra- so the sweat will be absorbed into the paper towel and not back in your skin as to why it cause a yeast rash.
5.Place another paper towel section up inside between your breats.
    6. Repeat until you feel you have created a great barrier between your skin/breast and your bra.
7.Carry a quart size bagggie with clean cottonrounds and small container of seabreeze. (I transfer some into those travel size squeeze bottles)
8.Use the seabreeze dampened cotton rounds to cool you down around your neck-wrists and between your breasts. This is prevent excess sweat from starting and keep you as dry as possible.

    HOPE THIS HELPS LADIES!
KEEP THOSE TA TA’S DRY AND HEALTHY!!!

First of all I am a nurse with a big chest and occassionally/ mainly in hot summer months I have gotten the dreaded rash. The best preventative is arm & hammer unscented anti perspirant deodorant. We use it on obese patients with lots of skin folds and it is a great preventative. (Really any brand would work unscented)If you already have the rash, keep it dry by using a cotton t-shirt cut into large squares that can be placed under the breast area. Once rash is gone use deodorant everyday under breasts just like you do under your arms.

    • Hanna says:

I tried power to keep dry but it didn’t last. I get a rash just under the breast where the band catches all the sweat. Out of desperation to keep sweat off a raging rash at work (I’m a horrific sweater) I grabbed 2 pantie liners I put them in my bra. The adhesive strip kept them secured to my bra for the shift.

    • Hateboobsweat says:

I don’t like to use any chemicals, and don’t use deoderant or anti-perspirant, don’t have much underarm sweat; but the under-breast thing is horrible. As Nurse Ratchet indicated, I also tear up strips of old T-shirts and use them as thin “liners” underneath when I will be exercising and sweating, or if I’m just hanging around the house in a loose bra that doesn’t keep that area separated. They stay put nicely and prevent wet stains on the front of my shirt. As soon as I get in from mowing, exercising, etc., I remove them — they are soaked through. Gentle soap wash, reapply liners or put on a looser cotton bra that soaks up instead of trapping the moisture. One episode of exercising can set up the itching and redness if I get in a hurry and don’t use the liners, but as long as I use those, I don’t have to chase the symptoms with powders or other applications.

Oh boy, someone else knows about this rash. In the hot weather the perspiration and chafing under my breasts is a problem. So, I stopped wearing a bra for a week and it went away. NO small feat either , I used to be a 32b and now a 50 ddd and people stared at me but at least the rash went away. I wore my bra and the rash came back. I thought is was soap residue. I went without a bra and now the rash is back. To get rid of it I gently washed with a sinkful of water with alittle baking soda in it. Dried gently, and made sure I was all dry. I did this 4 times a day, and the rash went away. Now it’s back again— this is the 5th time since the hot weather started with humidity—I have some desitin and I will give this a try today. Thanks all for the advice and experience posted about this rash

Invest in an aloe plant, cut pieces of the leaves and remove the skin and just apply like a gel,
Stick the leaf in the freezer for a little while if you need an immediate cooling. The stuff has worked miracles with my sun burns, regular burns, insect bites, minor scratches and a wide array of rashes.
There’s also a breast “antiperspirant” product on the market but I’m sure lotion and baby powder is a cheaper and equally effective way to deal with our boob-sweat

I have used Sesame oil for the last 5 years and have never had any rashes since using it. It is an anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and has good healing properties. Not a sales pitch as I have nothing to do with the company that sells it, just works good to keep skin smooth and soft and feeling good. The company is Youthing Strategies dot com. My mom (87) has a severe rash under her breasts and we use Bag Balm on it. You can get it at the drug store. It works good to heal the soreness and the rash. We used it on her bedsores and they were gone within a week. The nurse was amazed!

I’m 6 months pregnant and noticed a rash under my breast. At first it just itched and was red. I used baby oil, hydrocortisone and baby powder it just got worse and developed a thick white yeast-like coating and an odd smell. So I asked a pharmacist and he advised using clomitrazole, an over the counter cream. Not even 24 hours after applying the first time there was improvement. The white film is gone and it no longer itches or hurts.

Please look into wearing a BreastComfort Sling or a BreastComfort cushioned bra insert – both are soft cushions with wicking fabric which elevates the breast to keep the irritated skin from rubbing against itself and creating further irritation. I wear the sling as often as I can, particularly when I sleep. I no longer have itching or burning beneath my breasts and I’ve been able to dispense with cortisone creams and lotions entirely. I can’t recommend it enough!

I have tried nystantin powder, hydrocortisone cream, A&D cream, foot fungus creams (all of them!). Now I am mixing the creams and applying to clean area. No terrycloth( ie: rubbing , ruffiness, dye allergies etc ) More than one to change out when wet and to clean for another day/night . Sew one edge together lengthwise —[_][_]— —[_][_][_]— 2 or 3 for + sizes . tie or add velcro or button to secure . Front or the back .Fold top to bottom extra absorbency . No cornstarch to feed the fungus ! P.S Inspiration before sending, Cut top half of loose fitting cotton tee-shirt , bottom of arm pit to arm pit use tube bottom folded under breasts. Fold according to size can be rotated without taking off during the day. STAY DRY !

cornstarch I found out its not a good powder it’s got starch which turns into a sugar. Steroids are not good if the rash is fungal or yeast . Those 2 feed off sugar. Try over counter clotrimazole this is an antifungal. Especially if its not going away you might have a fungal yeast infection instead of a heat rash. Coconut and sesame oil I heard are good also have on the rash directly with a cotton swab

So glad to know I’m not alone. I have suffered with this issue for years.I like most of you ladies have been to the dr and dermatologist many times and nothing has worked. I have also tried every over the counter lotion and cream. I recently tried the A&D diaper cream to no avail. I went to the store today and purchased several tube top bras and decided that I will only wear those to see if that works. It’s inconvient but I am boycotting regular bras as much as I can until this heals. I also started using cornstarch today. I’ll keep yall posted.

See my comments above. If you have a fungus, the cornstarch will feed it. Good luck.

No one has mentioned this remedy yet. Years ago I lived in Arizona and had this problem. I found an old wives remedy CHEAP andWORKS. Take regular cooking flour and put in a non- stick fry pan..burn the flour. Yes burn it by its self, let it cool and use it like a talcum powder. It works Eben on the worst dieaper rash too.

I have a bright red rash under my right breast and it is very painful. I took a shower and dried the area with a hair blower. I then used a lot of corn starch. Then I took a thin pantie liner and folded it in half and placed under the breast. The next day was feeling somewhat better. I washed the area again and used baby diaper rash cream I bought at Wal-Mart twice a day. Oh my god it feels so much better. Hopefully no need to see a Dr. now.

A few years ago I was visiting family in Texas during the summer and developed a terrible rash and became so desperate I was using pads under my boobs to keep the area dry. I see I’m no the only one who has thought of this lol. It works great!

I use corn starch and stick a sanitary napkin under each breast in my bra. It pretty much takes care of the under-breast problem. I think it would work under my stomach roll as well, but I can’t figure out how to keep the sanitary napkin in place. I also have the problem on my inner thigh where it meets my body, and I’m a little afraid to put crams and such there. Any ideas?

A bright red rash is ever present under my tummy roll. I keep it clean & dry. I gave up most of my fancy undies for cotton undies that I can roll under my belly to absorb sweat. When real bad, I also use cornstarch baby powder (after drying well with a hair dryer). I haven’t had any rash under my breasts until this past week (mostly under left breast & in between breasts). I use the same method as above; under bra I used to use a thin cotton sock (but threw them out because I hadn’t had this problem in a long time—now I wish I’d kept those socks! Not easy to find thin, all cotton socks now-a-days.). Also, sometimes I roll a Kleenex facial tissue (make sure it is plain, without lotion, etc) and put between my breasts. I had just gotten fitted for new bras about 3 months ago, and hate to think I’d have to get new ones again–being a larger size, bras aren’t cheap! Any other suggestions?

I wear a cotton undershirt under my bra and that helps alot. Besides, it doesn’t slip out. If it gets damp or wet, change to a dry one. Hope this helps someone with this nagging problem.

Leo is my nickname. i have had the underboob rash problem occasionally. here is what i do and it works great. wash all infected areas with a mild soap and water and rinse them. no need to dry. i apply an antiseptic mouthwash, yes mouthwash, to all the infected areas and it eliminates all or most of the itching. if it still itches after a while, do the treatment again. an alternative is Gold Bond powder, but i found that to be messy to apply and it caked and further sweating created a mess.

An earlier suggestion posted here worked so well, felt compelled to share. This is the first time I’ve experienced this kind of rash and it’s only under one breast. I tried antibiotic cream, diaper rash cream, aloe cream, powder, ice packs. All made the rash feel better for awhile but none were helping diminish the redness. An earlier post said her pharmacist recommended CLOTRIMAZOLE cream. I found it at both CVS and Walmart under their own brand. The boxes have for “Athlete’s Foot” and then clotrimazole 1% under that. I’ve applied it to the rash 2x daily as per instructions. I felt immediate relief and now 5 days later the bright vivid red of the rash is now a soft pink, the tightness and itching have all but disappeared. I’ve also been making extra effort to keep area under both breasts dry (it’s hot here in NJ, five minutes outside and you’ve got sweat somewhere on your body :). I’m keeping my fingers crossed that soon it will be gone with continued use of this miracle cream!

I have been on the net trying to see if anyone has used what I use to keep the rash under my breasts away.

I had the rash for a few years in the summer months and could not find a way to stop it from happening. Yes, I am a bit overweight, but I have large breasts and I tend to perspire a lot, which used to make the problem much worse.

About 6 years ago I used a combination of corn starch and tea tree oil to clear the rash. Once it was full clear I started to use a crystal deo stick under my breasts and have used it ever since. using an ordinary deodorant did not work as it made it excessively dry and uncomfortable. I have since used it after I spray a squirt or two of colloidal silver under my breasts. Since I have done this I have never had the rash come back. It has really worked for me.

Please consider adding this note to your recommendations as this will help a number of women to keep the rash away once they have done what they can to get rid of it.

This is my no-fail INSTANT cure. Take a cotton ball, soak it with witch hazel, clean/soak the area. Now apply an over the counter cortisone cream. Slather it on and leave it on. BOOM,…gone. Do NOT be tempted the buy the witch hazel that has anything added to it, like scent, or aloe, or lemon…just plain. Gone that day.

2am and cannot sleep again. Trying Coconut oil under breasts tonight – so far still a bit itchy, the inflammation has settled a bit. I have had mild success with Epsom salt baths, apple cider vinegar, baking soda and tea tree oil, aloe vera, Dr Scholls foot spray and airing in sunshine (pleasant but not practical). Creams recommended by doc have not worked. But Prickly Heat Powder has been very successful but a bit messy for work days and needs reapplying. This powder is an Australian product containing zinc. I have been on a diet for a month now and hope losing weight will help with the excessive sweating. Goodluck everyone

I too have had an operation, am immobile for weeks and this problem is driving me nuts. I am unable to use the bath and showering takes hours so have to hand wash. I have it under all the folds, breasts, tummy tuck and groan, and have had it on and off for years but usually can sort trying various methods. This time it is driving me mad and nothing seems to work. I feel as if I am really dirty and doctors have no sympathy. I haven’t tried vinegar and nappy rash cream so will give that a try. Can’t get some of the stuff here in uk. Thanks for all the help. Just great to know you aren’t alone at 3 am when you can’t sleep.

Hi Susan – I appreciated your situation as I often feel “dirty,” too, and have recurring rashes under my large ladies, under tummy roll, and inner thighs. Constantly changing and laundering panties. Have been home 3 mons. from hospital and housebound yet, even with a/c, here in Escondido, CA it’s been like a desert so we’re always suffering from the heat; even swimming aggravates if I wait too long to use hair dryer under breasts and other areas. WHAT HELPS is, after cleansing areas with Tucks (witch hazel) pads, apply a generous amount of Zeasorb athlete’s foot powder (thoroughly wash hands afterwards) – this procedure provides almost immediately relief! Other hints that help: Use hair dryer in affected areas after bathing or swimming/jacuzzi, wear folded kleenex tissues (cheap) in bras or just tucked in under breasts. I have really appreciated and enjoyed everyone’s sharing their experiences as now I don’t feel like the lone ranger and realize this situation is a common one. Best wishes to you all!

Right after exercising one day, I found the worst, reddest rash under one single breast than I had ever seen in a rash ever before! And I’m 49! I couldn’t afford to buy tea tree oil, but I had coconut oil on hand, so I tried it. Man, did it work! Now, understand that some days I also did something a little different: I wore a thin, cotton undershirt, then a cotton bra, followed by whatever shirt I was wearing that day. This helped soak up any extra perspiration. It’s been close to a week, and it has really improved. And I have one of those stubborn bodies that don’t like to heal well! So if you have any, try it. If you think you’re about to get a rash, put a thin amount on, and do preventative measures, as well.
STAY AWAY FROM EXCESS ANTIPERSPIRANT. Sadly, it’s a known breast cancer.

Great site! I have Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, and it has greatly affected my skin. Yeast under the breasts has been a problem now annually, even without any blood sugar issues. One thing I would like to share, just in case anyone else has this sensitivity – if you emollients that contain Lanolin, such as Aquaphor, Eucerin, or A & D ointments among others, try a small patch on your arm, etc. first. I learned (the hard way!) that Lanolin is a very common allergy (it’s a wool alcohol so if you are allergic to wool that’s a good indication you are sensitive) and it’s in quite a few great products for skin. If you are sensitive, though, it’s a nightmare! I put a Lanolin based product I used happily on my hands for years under my breasts and they flared up horribly. Wonderful if you are not sensitive, Lanolin, Bacitracin and some other great products are deal-breakers for rashes if you are like me and are allergic to them. Hope that helps a few people. My doc, whose a saint, prescribed it for me before we knew I was so sensitive. I check the inert ingredient or ‘other ingredient’ lists now on any topicals.

Thank you all for the great advice you have shared! With my sensitivities to commercial products I’m always looking for alternatives, especially natural ones. This forum has been a great help. From time to time I have to reach for the diflucan, but I love to avoid systemic meds whenever I can.

This is really good information, but I’ve had trouble with lotions and ointments in the past. Everything seems to make my rash worse in time – probably because of perspiration. Someone suggested getting a breast sling because it keeps the skin so dry. I’m going to try that next.

For those who are looking for a source for cotton bras, try Fruit of the Loom. I have several. Insufficient support for my large breasts, but if I’m not going anywhere and not dressing up, who cares? They also have front closures cotton bras. THEY RUN SMALL.
My favorite dressing for yeast rash under my breasts and tummy roll is a salve of coconut oil and tea tree oil. You have to do it every day, though. I also use a tea tree bath soap. Every once in awhile I have to ask for a prescription of oral medication to knock down a rash in the summer. I’m 76, and this has been a problem only the last three years or so.
