How to Make Your Hair Grow Faster

There are no shortcuts to growing luscious, long locks. On average, hair grows about a half an inch per month. Your general health, well-being, and genetic factors affect your rate of hair growth.

You can encourage hair growth by maintaining healthy hair through a good diet and proper hair care. Certain herbs can help make your hair grow faster, too.

tips to make hair grow faster

Here are the top 10 ways to help your hair grow faster.

Contents

  • 1. Eat a healthy diet
  • 2. Use castor oil
  • 3. Massage your scalp
  • 4. Flip your hair upside down
  • 5. Stay stress-free
  • 6. Whip up an egg mask
  • 7. Infuse your hair with herbs
  • 8. Take vitamin and herbal supplements
  • 9. Nourish your hair with aloe vera
  • 10. Address medical problems

1. Eat a healthy diet

healthy diet

Eating a diet rich in protein and vital vitamins and minerals is an essential prerequisite to healthy hair growth. Opt for foods high in vitamins A, B, C, and E, iron, zinc, copper, magnesium, and selenium. Vitamin B-complex, in particular, is extremely important for making your hair grow faster.

So, include a variety of foods like milk, cheese, yogurt, chicken, eggs, whole grains, salmon, spinach, broccoli, bell peppers, cabbage, parsley, grapefruit, avocado, brown bread, oats, and alfalfa in your diet to nourish your hair and scalp. Plus, drink fresh fruit and vegetable juices, such as orange, grapefruit, carrot, beet, and lettuce juice.

Fish, flax seeds, walnuts, beans, winter squash, olive oil, and other foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids are also good for hair growth as about 3% of a hair shaft is made up of omega-3 fatty acids.

Avoid nutritional deficiencies because they tend to affect your hair adversely. For example, vitamin E and zinc deficiencies lead to hair thinning and loss.

2. Use castor oil

oil

Being rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids, especially omega-9 fatty acids, castor oil promotes hair growth naturally.

  • As this oil is quite viscous, mix the castor oil with an equal amount of coconut, olive, or almond oil. Massage your scalp with it and leave it on for 30 to 45 minutes. Then shampoo your hair.
  • You can also add essential oils, especially rosemary, peppermint, eucalyptus, lavender, or thyme oil, to the castor oil and then put it in your hair.

3. Massage your scalp

scalp massage

Massaging promotes blood flow to the scalp, which in turn stimulates the hair follicles. In addition, deep condition your hair once a week with a hot oil treatment or deep conditioning hair mask.

  1. Apply the oil (preferably warm) or conditioner to your hair.
  2. Gently rub your fingers on your scalp in a circular motion for three to five minutes.
  3. Rinse the oil or conditioner out of your hair.

4. Flip your hair upside down

hair flip upside down

This is one of the most popular tricks to promote faster hair growth. Just flip your hair upside down by flipping your head over for two to four minutes daily. It is believed to work by improving circulation.

5. Stay stress-free

meditation

Stress is one of the most important factors that contribute to hair loss. It is believed that stress can disrupt the normal hair cycle and trigger hairs to enter the telogen or fall-out phase. Thus, when striving for faster hair growth, minimize the stress in your life.

To manage stress, you can use meditation, breathing exercises, or other relaxation techniques. Plus, be sure to get your beauty sleep as the growth hormone is released during sleep.

6. Whip up an egg mask

egg mask

Eggs are highly beneficial for faster hair growth because they are packed with protein and also contain iron, sulfur, phosphorus, zinc, and selenium. You can use an egg hair mask at least once a month.

home remedy for faster hair growth

  • Whisk an egg. Mix in four tablespoons of grapeseed oil and a few drops of lavender oil. Apply it to your hair and scalp and leave it on for half an hour. Finally, rinse it out and shampoo your hair as usual.
  • Apply a mixture of two egg yolks and two tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil on your scalp. Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes. Wash it out with cold water and then shampoo your hair.
  • Alternatively, whisk an egg and add one cup of milk, two tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil, and the juice from half a lemon to it. Apply it on your scalp and leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes before washing it out and shampooing your hair.

7. Infuse your hair with herbs

herbal hair

Herbs like rosemary, catnip, nettle, burdock, horsetail, and sage promote faster hair growth. Rosemary, in particular, is excellent for hair growth because it stimulates the hair follicles. It also adds luster to your locks.
Furthermore, the polyphenols and anti-inflammatory properties of green tea are also linked to hair growth. Plus, most herbs stimulate hair growth by improving circulation.

  • Prepare an herbal infusion by steeping any of these herbs in hot water for 10 to 20 minutes. Use it as a final rinse after shampooing and conditioning your hair. In addition to encouraging hair growth, it will strengthen your hair and make it soft and manageable.
  • You can also mix herbal infusions or essential oils in your shampoo.
  • Drink herbal teas.

8. Take vitamin and herbal supplements

vitamins oils

In addition to eating a proper diet, you can take supplements like folic acid, biotin, kelp, fish oil, flaxseed oil, evening primrose oil, ginseng, ginkgo biloba, saw palmetto, and others to augment hair growth.

Folic acid and biotin are B-complex vitamins (vitamin B9 and B7 respectively) that aid faster growth of hair. Before taking any supplements, though, make sure you consult your doctor.

9. Nourish your hair with aloe vera

aloe vera gel

Aloe vera encourages hair growth and prevents hair loss. It also reduces dandruff and helps restore your hair’s natural sheen.

  • Apply fresh aloe vera gel mixed with a little lemon juice and leave it on for about 20 minutes. Shampoo your hair. Do this once every week or two.
  • You can also combine aloe vera gel with equal amounts of coconut milk and wheat germ oil and then apply it on your hair.
  • Drink aloe vera juice on a regular basis.

10. Address medical problems

sick girl with medical problems

Your efforts to boost hair growth will not reap good results if you have underlying problems like a thyroid disorder, hormonal imbalance, chronic illness, or a severe infection.

Certain medications like birth control pills, beta-blockers, anabolic steroids, antidepressants, anticonvulsants, and others may also contribute to problems such as hair thinning and hair loss.

Seborrheic dermatitis and scalp infections cause issues like itchy scalp and mild hair loss. So, identify any underlying issues contributing to hair problems and address them as soon as possible so they don’t hamper your hair growth efforts.

In addition to these tips, try some home remedies such as Indian gooseberry or amla oil, fenugreek paste, a mayonnaise hair pack, and other healthy hair ideas.

Maintain healthy hair by following a good hair care routine and using hair products that are suitable for your hair type. Plus, protect your tresses from sun damage and avoid the use of heat styling products.

Find out what you’re missing in your diet and make up for it. For me it was vitamin C and folic acid and I’m anemic. I started a prenatal, and vitamin C supplements, and I eat way more protein, mostly fish and chicken. I keep it moisturized and a massage every other day when I shampoo. To fix this problem you need to go about it by attacking all 3 ways. Inside your body, scalp, and your actual hair. Take vitamins AND easy a healthy diet. Be careful of too much iron it can be constipating. And talk to a doc about any deficiencies you may have. And keep the hair you have from breaking. Don’t let it get dry, use deep conditioners. Fyi, if you only do a massage with coconut oil or any oil, you will not get the full benefit. You need to start from within your body. Trust me, I tried doing only one and I got a few results, however doing this, my hair grows .4 inches every 2 weeks so that is almost an inch a month. Ladies, get your health on!

If your hair grows 4 inches every two weeks, then you’d have about 8 inches through the whole month.

I believe she said .4 inches.

          • Jordan says:

Yeah she actually said that her hair grows 4inches every 2 weeks and there are approximately 4 weeks in each month. 2×2=4 4×2=8. Do the math people

If you try leaving your shampoo in for a little while it should grow thick and long. I have had thick hair ever since I started using Loreal’s total repair 5 shampoo and the condidioner. So leave in the shampoo and conditioner for a little while then rinse and brush then let it air dry…DO NOT BLOW DRY!(Very bad for your hair)…and your hair should grow thick and strong!

I love your tips but just wash your hair with shampoo and conditioned every day and let it air dry, No combs, brushes, towels! It will grow and you will see the difference in 3 weeks, I just started this a while back and my hair is probably down to my boob! Its A great technique especially if you have dandruff, I used to. Also a faster way is to keep your head upside down while letting it air dry

I’m a Pacific Islander. Everyone says “Just use coconut oil.” I don’t know if it will actually work, but I’m trying it. My hair feels kind soft and light in a good way. Well if anything, I’ll check back in a few weeks and give my results. For now, don’t follow what I am doing.
P.S. I don’t just leave it in my hair. I wash it out after massaging it in. Enough oil stays in, keeping it moisturized and bouncy.

Can u just use castor oil nothing mix with it

      • Divya Venkat says:

You can use castor oil alone. But you cannot leave it on your hair for long as it will cool down your body very fastly. You can apply it luke warm and massage your scalp.
And then rinse. Don’t do this with kids.

I put straight castor oil on my scalp and leave it on for days at a time. My hair is growing like a weed and I’m getting new growth like crazy. Leaving it on overnight and through the next day will definitely will not hurt you. It can only help. I was almost bald and now I have a full head of hair thanks to castor oil

2 months after being septic, my hair s started to fall out…..I should say” I was Shedding”. Kit did not come out in clumps but fell out when I brushed my hair, washed it or just ran my fingers thru my hair….pretty even all over except in back where I started to get a bald spot….From all my research, I found out that my hair Went to Sleep” due to the shock to my body of the Sepsis……It has stopped shedding & is slowly growing back…..curly! I don’t mind just as long as it grows!!

Can someone please help me. I have bad psoriasis build up on my scalp. Some shots are ok and some are really bad. It’s big clumps of dry skin built up on my scalp. I have used everything from tea tree oil to a newborn cradle cap shampoo. I put tea tree oil in my hair once a month and leave it in for 30 mins then take a medal lice comb and scrape my scalp. After I am done my scalp is usually do irritated I can’t touch it and bleeding in spots. I have tried everything and now I am bald in spots. Thinning hair does not run in my family at all so no reason for me to be going bald at age 30 I need help. My hair was always BEAUTIFUL and thick until I had my child two yrs ago and this popped up on my scalp. I’ll take any suggestions please

nice tips.. Best way to grow your hair is applying Onion!! It has full rich of sulphur.. Which is great for blood circulation in the scalp so I totally recommended juicing the onion and massage it in your head for about 10 minutes or so and leave it on for 30 minutes and rinse it with a mild shampoo which is free sulfate… And another alternative to onion is Garlic.. Or Ginger. If you can’t stand the smell you can either use this!! So… If you like using oil for your hair my best recommendation is
    1. black castor oil
    2. almond oil.
    3. Rosemary oil.
    4. Coconut oil..
For me I find pure coconut the best method for hair growth so it’s up to you guys. Enjoy~

You can imagine my dismay when I had a stroke and when I recovered, I had lost so much of my hair that I could hold all of it in a pony tail just between my forefinger and my thumb. I have no idea how to style my hair when it is so thin. I am going to try these treatments. Thank all of you so much.

The easiest and most effective way to grow hair I found is by massaging your scalp, either with oil or even your bare finger tips. Invert your hair upsidedown and massage your scalp for 2-4 mins. daily for a week. It can help you grow hair few inches in a week. I saw this tip in websites so I thought I would definitely try it out, and it worked!

Hi I’m not sure why but my hair grows really fast. I do have my hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks and my hair dresser cannot believe how quick my hair grows. I don’t have a healthy diet and I do wash my hair every day, so the above is not true for me. I do have thin flyaway hair which I do hate, wud love thicker hair but it’s normally really healthy, apart from if I straighten it too much, but then I have regular hair cuts. Maybe it’s genetics. I know this does not give an answer but wanted to share that I do none of the above and my hair grows quicker than normal

Patience is a must. You should be consistent with what you are using for your hair. Hair is like a plant and it needs to be nourished. If you keep changing the product you are using you hair or scalp doesn’t know what to like. Virgin Coconut oil, grapeseed oil, and aloevera gel are effective. I take coconut oil pill, beautifully bamboo pill, grapeseed capsule and omega 3,6,9 pill because you need not to take something externally but also internally for your healthy scalp and hair growth. Before I shower I apply aloe vera (buy the pure aloe in amazon or you can use the aloe vera plant if you have one) to my hair and scalp and massage it for 3-5 minutes and leave it on at least 1 hour (the longer the better) (also note that massage gently with your fingertips NOT fingernails). I use shampoo and conditioner that is harsh free such as Purador Dandruff shampoo and Conditioner. After using the shampoo I either use the aloe vera again as conditioner or the purador conditioner and leave it on for at least 3 minutes then I rinse. If I don’t use the aloe vera before taking a shower I use essential oil (mix virgin coconut oil and grapeseed oil with drops of bamboo extract, asian ginseng extract, and neem). Apply this and massage to your hair and scalp the same way I mentioned with the aloe vera. Shampoo and use either the purador conditioner or aloe vera as conditioner. I do this treatment 3 times a week and alternately (aloe vera or the mixture of oil). Also try drinking the beautifully bamboo tea for 3 months then once in a while after that for great results. My once damage scalp which is very dry, sometimes red and itchy and my hair that is thinning and lossing was once again back to normal after 5 months. Before I did this routine I used a lot of products and frequently changes products and not getting the desired results until I got desperate and said I will stick to just one routing and same products and don’t care about the result but it turns out that the product and treatment I mentioned is working. So I will NEVER changed the product I am using. I am happy now with my scalp and hair.

Ladies how nice to see everyone pushing each other to get better. Don’t forget to also, drink lots of water, protect your hair from the burning sun, at least your scalp, and no SMOKING. Smoking are chemicals in your body which are not good, it also gives you wrinkles. Also placing a filter in your shower head can also help your scalp, because there are chemicals in our waters and it gets in our hair. Try to use things that do not have chemicals like alcohol, go all natural. Avoid chemicals that are in shampoos as much as possible. Read the labels. Avocado is also good for hair and your heart. Good Luck ladies.

I have struggled with my hair for a long time now. I am quickly approaching my 40s and I have bad hair quality. Recently, I have also noticed that my hair has stopped growing as it used to. A few years ago I went to the salon on a monthly basis. Now, it takes me almost two months before I even need to cut my hair! I am desperate and I really need help right now. Hair is one of the most important parts of a woman and I don’t want to give up on this one. I went to the doctors but they didn’t found anything wrong with me. The exams I took showed that I am healthy and there’s no reason for this to even happen to me. Please, I really need hair advice urgently!!!!!!!!!!!!

it doesnt matter what you eat drink or smoke..I am 56 and just take a multi vitamin plus keratin and collagen ..biotin every three days…wash my hair twice a week and once a month I mix of olive..coconut and castor oil in first leaving on for 30 minutes..my hair is past my bra line…it takes about 6 months ..but it does work..I also use coconut oil under my eyes once in a while…no wrinkles…I smoke…drink and eat junk food plus watch my grandkids part time…enjoy life
