1. Prevents Cancer

cancer virus
Turmeric can help prevent prostate cancer, stop the growth of existing prostate cancer and even destroy cancer cells. Multiple researchers have found that the active components in turmeric makes it one of the best protectors against radiation-induced tumors. It also has a preventive effect against tumor cells such as T-cell leukemia, colon carcinomas and breast carcinomas.

2.Relieves Arthritis

rheumatoid arthtitis hand
The anti-inflammatory properties in turmeric are great for treating both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. In addition, turmeric’s antioxidant property destroys free radicals in the body that damage body cells. It has been found that those suffering from rheumatoid arthritis who consume turmeric on a regular basis experience much relief from the moderate to mild joint pains as well as joint inflammation.

3. Controls Diabetes

diabetes
Turmeric can be used in the treatment of diabetes by helping to moderate insulin levels. It also improves glucose control and increases the effect of medications used to treat diabetes. Another significant benefit is turmeric’s effectiveness in helping reduce insulin resistance, which may prevent the onset of Type-2 diabetes. However, when combined with strong medications, turmeric can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). It is best to consult a healthcare professional before taking turmeric capsules.

4. Reduces Cholesterol Level

cholestrol in artery
Research has proven that simply using turmeric as a food seasoning can reduce serum cholesterol levels. It is a known fact that high cholesterol can lead to other serious health problems. Maintaining a proper cholesterol level can prevent many cardiovascular diseases.

5. Immunity Booster

shield body from virus
Turmeric contains a substance known as lipopolysaccharide, which helps stimulate the body’s immune system. Its antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal agents also help strengthen the immune system. A strong immune system lessens the chance of suffering from colds, flu and coughs. If you do get a cold, a cough or the flu, you can feel better sooner by mixing one teaspoon of turmeric powder in a glass of warm milk and drinking it once daily.

6. Heals Wound

wound healing
Turmeric is a natural antiseptic and antibacterial agent and can be used as an effective disinfectant. If you have a cut or burn, you can sprinkle turmeric powder on the affected area to speed up the healing process. Turmeric also helps repair damaged skin and may be used to treat psoriasis and other inflammatory skin conditions.

7. Weight Management

weight loss
Turmeric powder can be very helpful in maintaining an ideal body weight. A component present in turmeric helps increase the flow of bile, an important component in the breakdown of dietary fat. Those who wish to lose weight or treat obesity and other associated diseases can benefit from having one teaspoon of turmeric powder with every meal.

8. Prevents Alzheimer’s Disease

memory loss
Brain inflammation is suspected to be one of the leading causes of cognitive disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease. Turmeric supports overall brain health by aiding in the removal of plaque build-up in the brain and improving the flow of oxygen. This can also prevent or slow down the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.

9. Improves Digestion

improves digestion
Many key components in turmeric stimulate the gallbladder to produce bile, which then improves digestion and reduces symptoms of bloating and gas. Also, turmeric is helpful in treating most forms of inflammatory bowel disease including ulcerative colitis. However it is important to bear in mind that people suffering from any kind of gallbladder disease should not take turmeric as a dietary supplement as it may worsen the condition. It is best to consume turmeric in raw form when suffering from a digestive problem.

10. Prevents Liver Disease

liver
Turmeric is a kind of natural liver detoxifier. The liver detoxifies the blood through the production of enzymes and turmeric increases production of these vital enzymes. These vital enzymes break down and reduce toxins in the body. Turmeric also is believed to invigorate and improve blood circulation. All of these factors support good liver health.

Given the numerous health benefits of turmeric, adding this powerful herb to your diet is one of the best things you can do to improve the quality of your life. You can add turmeric in powder form to curries, stir fried dishes, smoothies, warm milk and even to spicy salad dressings. Turmeric can be taken in pill form also. However, turmeric should not be used by people with gallstones or bile obstruction.

I just seen your recipe. What have been the results of drinking your recipe. Did it relieve the knee pain and the back pain.

        • John Devine says:

I have been taking turmeric for about 6 weeks now. Back and hip pain greatly relieved, reoccurring skin lesions in my hand has gone (after 2 years !) and intolerable itching and pain in my feet has dissapeared (after more than a year). I use 1small ts each of turmeric and cinnamon, mixed with honey and/or maple syrup to which I add hot (not boiling) water. I take two whole black peppercorn with this, to aid the absorption of the curcumin in the turmeric. A word of warning. The cinnamon does not disolve but is held in suspension. So give the mug a good swirl or stir before the last couple of mouthfuls to avoid a mouthful of cinnamon sludge ! 🙂 Good luck.

You need to get some pepper in the mix. You don’t absorb much of the benefits of turmeric without it.

In the Caribbean, we do cook with a lot of curry powder–and that’s about all we do with it! So, when my husband asked me to check the website for any information I could find on Tumeric/Carcumin, per his friend, I did so rather hesitatingly. Having printed a copy of my findings and gave it to him–he no sooner misplaced it and requested another. As I could no longer find the identical article, I uploaded your input and was simply awed by the many curative powers of a simple kitchen herb–curry powder! Since I have been trying to loose weight for over a year, without success, I have decided to try this product and have as well been sharing it with friends. Thanks-a-million!

Turmeric can be added to most dishes. I add it to roast vegetables frequently, and also I crush it along with ginger and add it to a vegetable fruit drink I make. My sister makes turmeric tea and said it’s really nice, but it’s important to avoid adding milk, like any animal protein, it has a negative effect on your health, good luck.John in Canada.

I’ve had bilateral knee pain and difficulty climbing and going down stairs due to painful joints. Had to stop using my treadmill because of the pressure on the joints and the pain it caused. I read about the positive effects of turmeric so purchased it from a local Indian grocery store.
I started taking the powdered form 1 1/2 tsp. stirred in milk three times a day and it has worked wonders……I haven’t had any ‘knee pain’ at all and I have resumed using my treadmill….. Hope this helps the doubters…. Also haven’t had any side effects what so ever…… What a ‘miracle’ spice……

Very useful site. Being a clinician myself and a strong penchant to explore traditional medicinal herbs , I have been researching on turmeric for last 10 years to discover its medicinal effects on ailments. Lucky enough to procure the fresh turmeric roots, I have been taking raw turmeric juice daily for almost 5 years. Before going anywhere with turmeric, word of counsel…’ one has to be patient to discover its wonder effects in totality’. Word of caution for people who suffer from chronic constipation and chronic gastritis’ please take it in moderation’. Also if one is on aspirin or clopidogrel ( blood thinners) one should also like watchful if going under the knife ( as reports of bleeding are in vogue). Contraction of gall bladder and uterus have been reported by some sources.( ones with gall stones and pregnancy should be a tad wary before taking turmeric regularly). That’s about it in terms of side effects. In terms of its therapeutic effects, it is hard to find any system where it is not beneficial. Being an anti-oxidant would be at the top of the list. Next would be its anti-inflammatory effect but its effects could be realised once it is taken unabated for certain period of time ( don’t expect miracles overnight !). Its neurological effects in terms of reducing age related dementia is the one that I personally would like to advocate. Being a chronic patient of Irritable bowel syndrome ( different subjects have different manifestations; commonly abdominal cramps, alternate diarrhoea and constipation ; stress induced exacerbations that is symptoms flare up) I benefited immensely by consuming turmeric regularly. Topical usage for boils, pimples, gum swelling and gingivitis ( gum infection; but a dash of salt needs to be mixed to experience its fullest effects), chronic ulcers, burns etc, would be other areas where turmeric acts smartly for its wound healing properties. Chronic inflammation is the main reason for most age related ailments; turmeric acts on most pathways ( perhaps not the right forum to go into details) to stall overall degeneration.
Recommend to take it daily with dose adjustments as and when required. In compendium, turmeric is a wonder herb if not the inveterate ‘Elixir’ for most if not all ailments :-).

Then the doctor ordered for my son 100ml distilled warm water + 1/2 teaspoon turmeric + 20 teaspoon honey + 40 ginger root drops /cut ginger and chop then you get drops/. After this mix all ingredients then put in bottle then in the fridge. Finally every 3 hrs give for your son 1 teaspoon. It was amaizing. Still I am using.
