The inevitable aging process is hard on the skin. Problems like fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin start to appear as the skin’s natural oil production decreases.
While we all wouldn’t mind being wise beyond our years, looking the part, however, won’t sit well with any of us. As the years roll on, the signs of aging are bound to set in. Even if at every birthday you try your best to wish away the wrinkles and the fine lines, there’s only so much you can do before you accept defeat.
Constantly stressing and fussing over your appearance does more harm than good by giving you additional frown lines. Moreover, the tendency to overcompensate what you lack in terms of youthful skin by dawning excessive makeup is a complete no-no as well.
Commercial beauty products, including high-end skincare brands, are often heavily laden with toxins and chemicals that can yield instant results but can cause irreversible dermal damage in the long run. Besides, these harsh products tend to deplete the skin of its moisture and natural elasticity.
What is required is a healthy and balanced approach that does not ask you to either give in to premature aging or be consumed by its dread, but a third alternative: adopt healthy lifestyle choices and preferably all-natural solutions, such as essential oils, to avoid and mitigate the skin damage to the best of your abilities.
Premature aging signs take away the charm and suppleness of your skin and replace them with ugly wrinkles, age spots, sagging skin, grey hair, and crow’s feet to name a few.
What Causes Premature Aging?
- Sun exposure
- Smoking and alcohol consumption
- Inadequate hydration on a regular basis
- Unhealthy and insufficient diet
- Excessive facial product application, especially products containing parabens
- Facial expressions such as repeatedly squinting, smiling, and frowning
- Environmental factors such as wind, dryness, and air pollution
- Stress
- Genetics
Granted there is no way to stop or reverse the steady, relentless march of time. Still, nobody wants the aging signs to show any earlier than they absolutely must. Proper skin care, a healthy lifestyle, a sound sleep of 6-7 hours daily, and a good diet can help a lot in keeping your skin youthful.
With some special care and attention, you can keep your skin healthy and retain a youthful appearance, without spending lots of money on anti-aging cosmetics.
Anti-Aging Oils for Your Skin
To keep aging skin supple and hydrated, it is important to replenish the lost epidermal lipids. Many natural oils, which include both carrier and essential oils, have anti-aging as well as health benefits that can keep your skin hydrated, plump and full of life.
These oils contain plenty of antioxidants that combat the damage caused by free radicals, ultraviolet (UV) sunrays as well as environmental pollutants.
Plus, they contain other unique phytonutrients that can help address a variety of skin concerns. These naturally occurring compounds are more or less compatible with almost every skin type, and work as trusted aids to diminish the appearance of aging signs, if not prevent them in the first place.
Anti-Aging Carrier Oils for Your Skin
Here are some anti-aging carrier oils for younger looking skin.
1. Argan Oil
Argan oil, extracted from a very unique tree found only in Morocco, is made up of 80 percent fatty acids that help fight free radicals and provide anti-aging benefits.
The vitamin A and E in this oil also help reduce wrinkles, age spots, fine lines, and sagging skin.
It effectively keeps the skin moisturized and improves the skin’s elasticity. It even protects the skin from oxidative damage from ultraviolet (UV) sun rays.
A 2015 study published in Clinical Interventions in Aging suggests that daily intake and/or topical application of argan oil has an anti-aging effect on the skin, demonstrated by the improvement of skin elasticity.[1]
Argan oil is absorbed quickly by the skin and without leaving any oily residue. Thus, it is suitable for all skin types, including oily and sensitive skin.
- After thoroughly cleansing your skin, apply a few drops of argan oil on your skin and massage gently using circular motions. Do this daily before going to bed.
- Also, include 1 tablespoon of culinary argan oil in your regular diet. Its nutty flavor adds richness to sweet and savory dishes.
2. Olive Oil
Olive oil works as the perfect anti-aging oil to maintain younger-looking skin. This oil is rich in vitamin A and E as well as several other minerals and fatty acids that your skin needs to fight free-radical damage.
When used topically on the skin, it stimulates the production of collagen, which gives your skin a youthful glow with a smooth texture.
When taken internally, extra-virgin olive oil protects your body against age-related diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, osteoporosis, peptic ulcers and more.
A 2012 study published in PLOS One reports that the monounsaturated fatty acids in olive oil help reduce oxidative stress, insulin resistance, and related inflammatory processes and thus protects the skin against photoaging from the prolonged sun or other UV exposure.[2]
- Before taking a bath, massage your body with lukewarm olive oil for 5 to 10 minutes daily. This will improve blood circulation and keep your skin moisturized and free from aging signs.
- Also, include 1 to 2 tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil in your regular diet.
3. Coconut Oil
Coconut oil promotes collagen production and replacement, which prevents aging signs like wrinkles and age spots.
Its antioxidant properties help fight free radicals and nourish damaged skin. It also contains lauric acid that has antibacterial properties that can help fight acne breakouts.
It can also be used to treat chronic dry skin, eczema, and psoriasis.
A study published in the journal Dermatitis found coconut oil to be as effective and safe as mineral oil when used as a moisturizer.[3]
It also works as a natural sunscreen that helps guard your skin against sun damage, one of the main factors behind premature skin aging.
- Massage your body with coconut oil after a bath or shower to help the skin retain its moisture. Try to do this daily.
- You can also make a mild body scrub by combining coconut oil with granulated sugar. Gently exfoliate your skin with it once a week.
- Also, include 2 tablespoons of extra-virgin coconut oil in your regular diet to keep your body healthy and prevent age-related diseases.
4. Almond Oil
Almond oil can also delay the aging process and treat wrinkles.
The vitamin E and K in this oil help skin to regenerate and maintain elasticity as well as promoting better circulation.
A 2010 study published in Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice highlights the emollient properties of almond oil. This helps rejuvenate and soften the skin, thereby improving complexion and skin tone.[4]
Additionally, almond oil is a natural UV blocker, making it ideal for people who spend a lot of time in the sun.
A study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology reports that topical application of almond oil can prevent the structural damage caused by UV irradiation and can also reverse the damage that may have already occurred.[5]
- Massage your skin with sweet almond oil after taking a bath once daily to delay the effects of aging. Being mild and hypoallergenic, it is safe for people who have sensitive skin.
- You can also apply a few warm drops of almond oil beneath your bottom eyelids before going to bed to get rid of under eye wrinkles and dark circles.
- To take internally, add 2 or 3 teaspoons of sweet almond oil in a cup of warm milk and drink it daily. You can also mix it into your smoothie or drizzle it on salads.
5. Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil is one of the most hydrating oils in the world that offers anti-aging benefits too.[6]
The vitamins, such as E and C, in it, support rapid cellular regeneration for a firm and full skin. It even helps diminish fine lines, age spots and other visible signs of aging.
As an emollient, this oil keeps the skin moisturized and prevents skin irritation or scaly and rough patches, which are often seen in aging skin.[7]
Its non-greasy texture makes it suitable for all skin types, including sensitive and acne-prone skin. Jojoba oil can also accelerate wound healing.
- Blend jojoba oil in equal amounts with another plant-based massage oil like almond oil. Use it to massage your skin after taking a bath or shower. Do this once daily.
- You can also add a few drops of jojoba oil to an anti-aging face mask of your choice.
6. Avocado Oil
Just like eating avocados is good for health, using avocado oil on the skin can keep your skin younger and free from aging signs. It is particularly good for people with dry skin.
This anti-aging oil is very rich in vitamin A and E that help reverse age-related skin damage.
It not only promotes the regeneration of healthy cells but also keeps the existing cells and tissues healthy.[7]
The high amount of protein and unsaturated fats in it also promote healthy skin and reduce the incidence of age spots, sun spots, wrinkles, and saggy skin. It even helps even out skin tone, which is a sign of healthy skin.
- Apply avocado oil topically to help relieve dry and itchy skin. As the oil gets deeply absorbed into the skin, it works as an ideal moisturizer for all types of skin.
7. Pomegranate Seed Oil
Pomegranate seed oil is another excellent anti-aging oil. Its powerful antioxidants fight and repair free-radical damage caused by exposure to the sun and environmental factors that age skin.
Moreover, a study published in Experimental Dermatology gives credit to the photo-chemo-preventive effect of pomegranate-derived products, which essentially means that this oil might prove effective against UVB-induced skin damage, including the proliferation of cancer cells.[8]
However, further studies are needed to demonstrate the effectiveness of pomegranate-derived products in the prevention of UVB-mediated damage and photoaging.
The oil strengthens the outer layers (epidermis) and repairs deeper layers (dermis) of the skin. It also boosts collagen production to improve skin elasticity.
A study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology notes that pomegranate seed oil promotes regeneration of epidermis, which helps set back skin aging.[9]
It also has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and healing properties that support skin health. This oil can be used on the face as well as the entire body. It gets absorbed quickly and effectively moisturizes all skin types.
- Massage your skin with high-quality, cold-pressed pomegranate oil. You can use it once daily.
8. Wheat Germ Oil
Wheat germ also has skin regenerating properties that help keep your skin young and flawless for years.
Its oil is high in vitamin A as well as vitamin E; powerful antioxidants that help prevent free radical damage to skin cells.
It supports the skin’s natural process of regeneration and is good for treating dry and aging skin.
A 2010 study published in the Pharmacognosy Research found that the formulations containing wheat germ oil and aloe vera extract produced higher skin hydration as compared to the formulations containing them separately.[10]
So, it is recommended to use wheat germ with aloe vera extract for better skin benefits.
- Add a few drops of wheat germ oil to 1 tablespoon of fresh aloe vera gel and apply it on your skin. Massage gently for 5 minutes, let it sit on your skin for 10 minutes and then rinse off using lukewarm water. Repeat once daily.
- Another option is to mix wheat germ oil and honey in equal amounts, apply it to your skin and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing off. Repeat once daily.
Anti-Aging Essential Oils to Delay Skin Aging
Here is a list of some anti-aging essential oils for your skin.
1. Lavender Essential Oil
When it comes to essential oils, the lavender essential oil is one of the best oils to include in your beauty regimen. It is suitable for all skin types.
The high antioxidant content in lavender oil protects the skin from harmful, free, and damaging ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun.[11][12]
In addition, lavender essential oil promotes good sleep, one of the best-kept secrets behind flawless and young-looking skin.[13]
This renowned member of the essential oil family is also prized for stimulating blood circulation, which allows oxygen and nutrients to reach the skin cells more effectively. This helps with the regeneration of new skin cells.
- Mix 10 drops of lavender essential oil in 1 ounce of extra-virgin olive oil. Increase the quantities proportionately as needed.
- Use it to massage your skin first thing in the morning, just after taking your shower.
- Repeat again right before going to bed.

2. Rosehip Essential Oil
Rosehip essential oil is another ingredient that you must include in your beauty care products, not just for its intoxicating aroma but for its host of other skin benefits.
Containing vitamin C and antioxidants, this antiaging tonic helps slow down collagen breakdown, improves skin elasticity and firmness, and reduces the appearance of fine lines, deep wrinkles, and brown age spots.[14]
It is one of the few essential oils that naturally contains retinol (vitamin A), which helps treat these visible signs of aging. It even encourages the growth and regeneration of new skin cells, which helps rejuvenate the skin and delay the signs of aging.[15]
In addition, as this oil is especially rich in antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory compounds, it helps manage skin conditions such as psoriasis and dermatitis.
- Apply a few drops of rosehip oil on your damp skin.

Moreover, the antioxidants in it protect the skin from environmental toxins that cause premature aging. It even aids in blood purification, which in turn supports healthy and flawless skin.
Neem oil is also high in polyunsaturated fatty acids and vitamin E, both of which prevent premature aging. To add to that, a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition notes that polyunsaturated fatty acids protect the skin from UV irradiation.[16]
Vitamin E has an emollient effect on skin and helps reduce the appearance of fine lines, age spots, and wrinkles.
- Mix 1 tablespoon of neem essential oil in 1/3 cup of lukewarm olive or coconut oil.
- Before going to bed, massage your skin with this mixture for 5 minutes in circular motions.
- Leave it overnight.

It fixes skin discoloration and acne blemishes, reduces sun and age spots, minimizes the appearance of pores, and works as an astringent to restore the skin’s pH balance.
It aids in restoring elasticity to the skin, tightening loose sagging skin under the eyes, and reducing under-eye wrinkles and crow’s feet.
- Dilute 6 drops of frankincense essential oil in 1 ounce of any unscented carrier oil.
- Mix thoroughly and apply it directly on your skin.
- Use it to massage any skin area that has become saggy, such as the abdomen, jowls, or under the eyes.

Beneficial in every way, rose essential oil is an excellent hydrating and brightening agent.
Serving as a cicatrizant, it is highly effective in reducing any kind of marks and scars on the skin and thus acts as an excellent antiaging agent.[18]
It has a rich antioxidant content that prevents radical damage and delays the formation of fine lines and wrinkles.[19] Plus, its anti-inflammatory properties help reduce redness and inflammation.
In addition to using this essential oil topically on your skin, you can also inhale its soothing aroma to relieve stress.
- Put 3 teaspoons of olive oil or any other carrier oil of your choice in a bowl.
- Add 1 teaspoon of rose essential oil to it (the ratio must be 3:1).
- Massage your skin with this mixture in circular motions for 5 minutes.
- Leave it overnight.
- Rinse it off with lukewarm water the next morning.
- Do this once daily to help maintain a young-looking skin.
6. Geranium Essential Oil
To keep your skin young and prevent premature signs of aging, the geranium essential oil is another good choice.
The antioxidants in this oil work as free-radical scavengers to improve skin elasticity and tighten the skin, thus reducing the appearance of wrinkles, age spots, and fine lines.
Geranium oil also stimulates blood circulation just beneath the surface of the skin, which is fundamental to getting flawless skin as well as for overall physical health.[20]
Being a natural cytophylactic, it promotes cell health and encourages the recycling of dead cells and the regeneration of new cells.
It also helps regulate oil production and reduces acne breakouts. Plus, it helps treat dermatitis and other skin diseases.
- Mix 5 or 6 drops of geranium essential oil in 1 teaspoon of olive or coconut oil. Thoroughly massage the oil blend into your skin once daily before going to bed.
- Another option is to add 2 drops of geranium oil to your daily face or body wash and use it as usual.
7. Carrot Seed Essential Oil
Carrot seed essential oil also has skin-regeneration properties that will keep your skin looking young and flawless for years.
Extracted through the process of steam distillation of wild carrot seeds, this oil is high in vitamin A. This vitamin is a powerful antioxidant that helps prevent free-radical damage to skin cells.[21]
The carotenoids in carrot seed oil rejuvenate skin cells and aid in the detoxification process, which is essential for healthy and glowing skin. This oil also protects the skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays and helps repair damaged skin tissue.
- Add a few drops of carrot seed oil to your regular massage oil and use it to massage your skin.
- Also, add carrot seed oil to your antiaging face masks to delay the aging process.

Neroli essential oil also helps keep premature signs of aging at bay. It is one of the best beauty secrets of ‘Ayurveda’ that help keep skin strong and resilient, even while advancing into the golden years. It is especially great for oily, sensitive, and mature skin.
This essential oil contains a natural chemical called citral, which helps regenerate cells and prevents premature signs of aging.

Myrrh essential oil acts as an antiaging agent. Its antioxidant nature combats wrinkles, age spots, and other premature signs of aging by preventing free-radical damage and reversing the oxidative damage.
Plus, it aids in improving the skin texture that tends to deteriorate with advancing age.

Might be able to find at vitamin world….
This was an alright article. #6, lavender essential oil, (is an essential oil). The rest are carrier oils and a select few are vegetable oils. There is a difference between all of those. If you are going to invest your hard earned money into putting any type of essential oil or carrier oil on your beautiful and precious face!! I highly recommend and suggest that you take your time, research the essential oil companies, and find the ones who are very reputable. The companies that have all natural ingredients, have a non-GMO project to help save our bees, 100% pure, certified organic, and high-quality essential oils. If you happen to find your essential oils in large bottles, that are not protected in dark glass from any type of light, and you’re either paying very cheap prices or possibly even paying high amounts!! Chances are, you’re not getting good quality products, the strength of your essential oils are compromised or will be watered down, and you will not get the results that you were hoping and paying for!! Please, just do some homework, take your time, and read, read, read up on these wonderful oils… The reputable companies that have great essential oils, carrier oils, vegetable oils, and so on will sell their products in all sizes due to prices. Since some essential oils can be very pricey. There’s No THC in it for anyone that is worried about that!! But, you do your own research for your essential oil companies please. Have a very blessed day!!
