1 of 3

Hair loss is a common problem nowadays. As hair is regarded as an asset that enhances one’s physical appearance, balding or thinning hair is a problem that many want to correct as soon as possible.

Some of the common factors contributing to thinning hair are excessive physical or emotional stress, hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, pollution, allergies, use of wrong hair care products, poor hair care routine, and heredity.

If you have thinning hair, there is no need to spend money on expensive treatments and products. There are many natural remedies to help you get thicker and voluminous hair.

Here are the top 10 ways to get thicker hair naturally.

1. Eggs

Regular protein treatment is essential to enjoy stronger and thicker hair. For a protein hair treatment, the best ingredient is eggs.

  • Take one or two eggs, depending on the length of your hair, and beat it properly. Apply the egg on wet hair and allow it to sit for about 30 minutes. Wash your hair with lukewarm water and shampoo. You can use this protein treatment once or twice a week.
  • Another option is to mix together one egg yolk, one tablespoon of a hair oil of your choice and two tablespoons of water. Use this mixture to massage your scalp thoroughly. Follow this remedy once a week to enjoy thicker hair.

2. Olive Oil

Olive oil will also add body to your hair. Plus, it will help soften and strengthen your tresses.

  • Another option is to mix olive oil with some honey and apply the mixture on your hair. Leave it on for at least 30 minutes and then wash your hair.

Use either or these remedies once or twice a week.

3. Avocado

Avocado can also be used to get thicker hair as it moisturizes and adds body to your hair. Plus, the vitamin E in this fruit contributes to the overall health of the hair shaft.

  • Make a mixture of one mashed avocado, one mashed banana and one tablespoon of olive oil. Massage it on your scalp and leave the mixture on your hair for about 30 minutes so that the nutrients are absorbed by the scalp. Finally, rinse it out and shampoo your hair.
  • You can also make a hydrating hair mask by mixing two tablespoons of wheatgerm oil with half of a ripe mashed avocado. Apply this hair mask on freshly shampooed hair and allow it to sit for at least 20 minutes. Rinse your hair thoroughly and then shampoo your hair.

Use either of these avocado hair masks once a week.

4. Fenugreek Seeds

Fenugreek seeds can also be used to prevent hair loss and enjoy better hair growth.

  • Soak two to three tablespoons of fenugreek seeds in water for eight to 10 hours. Grind the soaked seeds to make a fine paste. You can also mix two teaspoons of coconut milk in it. Apply the paste on your hair and scalp and allow it to sit for about 30 minutes before washing your hair with lukewarm water. When done weekly on a regular basis, this remedy will prevent dry scalp and help you enjoy thicker hair.
  • Another option is to use the water that the fenugreek seeds soaked in overnight as a hair rinse. This will encourage hair growth and help you to get rid of dandruff. Use it once or twice a week.

5. Indian Gooseberry

The anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial and exfoliating properties present in Indian gooseberry can help a lot in maintaining a healthy scalp and better hair growth rate.

  • Mix one tablespoon of Indian gooseberry or amla powder in two tablespoons of coconut oil and heat until boiling. Strain the oil and massage it onto your scalp before going to bed. The next morning, shampoo your hair as usual. Do this on a weekly basis.
  • Another option is to mix one-quarter cup of warm water in one-half cup of Indian gooseberry powder and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Apply the paste on your hair and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing it off. Do not shampoo your hair for a few hours. Follow this remedy every few weeks.
  • You can also take the Indian gooseberry fruit and its extract as a dietary supplement for healthy hair.

6. Castor Oil

Massaging your scalp regularly with cold-pressed castor oil is one of the easiest ways to get thicker hair naturally. Due to its high viscosity, it coats the hair thoroughly and protects against hair fall. Plus, being high in vitamin E and fatty acids, it promote hair growth.

  1. Heat a mixture of equal parts of castor oil and coconut oil. Simply using castor oil will also work but it tends to be too thick.
  2. Apply it on your head and scalp and massage in circular motions.
  3. Comb your hair to distribute the oil throughout your hair and remove tangles.
  4. Cover your hair with a towel moistened with warm water.
  5. Leave it on for at least one hour and then shampoo your hair as usual.
  6. Follow this remedy once a week to enjoy lustrous and thick hair.

  6. These remedies do work! I apply beaten eggs to my hair once every week and olive oil works wonders too! Adding a few cloves of garlic to the olive oil for a week or two before you use it makes it even better! I have thick long brown hair which reaches just past my waistline. And I’m 5’8, so well you can guess how long that must be. 🙂

  7. I have tried Rosemary oil and has done wonders. I also mix apple cider vinegar with aloevera and add it to my hair while I shampoo. After shampooing, I towel dry and add morocoon oil just few drops….this makes the hair smooth and removes frizz.

  10. Nothing but a wig would improve the condition of my thinning hair after a major illness some years ago, but the Tea Tree Shampoo is the best shampoo so far (and I’ve tried quite a few). I’ve been using this shampoo for about a month now and am really pleased with the results. Even my hairdresser commented last week that my hair was looking better than it has for a while and asked what product I was using. It’s packed full of essential oils so the smell is unbelievably good too.

  11. Hair fall, premature greying, and dandruff are the biggest problems faced by all women now a days. The reasons of hair fall are many, like stress, poor diet and lack of hair care routine. Most of the shampoos available in the market have harmful chemicals in them, that end up damaging the hair even more. The best alternative is to use a shampoo with natural ingredients such as aloe vera, rosemary oil, arnica extracts, saw palmetto.
Also, change your diet to include protein rich food to get stronger and longer hair.

  16. I always had a good head of hair until my doctor put me on Lipitor to lower cholestrol. My hair got very thin and I didn’t link the problem right away to Lipitor. I started to wonder what new thing was I doing? I decided to call my pharmacist to ask about some side effects. Sure enough, one of the side effects was baldness in spots (alopicia arearta). I stopped the Lipitor and my hair stopped falling out. My hair never really came back to what it was though. However, my hair absolutely stopped thinning after throwing away the Liitor. I have now since dicovered that Liitor has been taken off the market. Within 3 years after this problem, my doctor put me on Avapro for high B pressure. My hair started to thin once again. It was falling out! I don’t know if the Avapro was the culperate, but I certainly got off that perscribed drug. I’m doing natural remedies to lower my blood pressure with a healthy natural diet. I am going to try the amla powder with the coconut oil and hope for the best. I’ll let you guys know if it works.

  23. Wat about using coconut oil once a week. Will it help my hair grow thicker but how much time will it take. Pls tell

    1. To get long thick and super soft hair massage organic coconut oil in to your hair 2-4 times a week (leave in 10-25 mins) wash out with shampoo. do this untill hair is growing and healthy. ( No split-ends ) and reduse to 2-4 times a month.
      works amaizingly. <3

  24. Why egg yolk? Yolk is mostly fats. It may add fatrnmess/soiftness to hair, but if you are after protein (and I am not sure if topical application will actually add to real hair) the albumin is good protein,,,,in a _fresh_ egg….

  25. My hair is so thin, it’s embarrassing!! I have a bunch of split ends, it’s frizzy, and WAY TOO THIN! I condition it everytime I wash it, (which at the most is every other day, i know that’s bad), I hardly ever use heat, seriously like NEVER! I always just put it in a braid or a ponytail. But it’s just too thin. What REALLY works? And what is the routine and details that I should use?

  26. To get long and thick super soft hair massage organic coconut oil in to your hair 2-4 times a week ( leave in 10-25 mins) wash out with shampoo.
Do this untill hair is growing and healthy ( No split-end) and reduse to 2-4 times a month.
    WORKS AMAIZINGLY

  27. Please help. My hair has always been my pride and joy. I figured since it is pretty damn healthy, it could deal with some bleach damage. And I figured the master stylist who did all the color-corrections would know how much would be too much. I was wrong, and now I want to burst into tears every time I look at my hair or touch it. I just don’t know what to do. My hair has also NEVER been shorter than this and it breaks and falls out. What should I do to regrow hair?

    1. Use coconut oil as a hair mask every time prior to washing. An excellent conditioner for brittle dry hair is “It’s a 10” hair mask. It is expensive but worth it. You may need to purchase it from a professional stylist or if you can find a beauty supply that sells to the public. It can also be purchased at Walmart but I have heard that it may or may not be the same quality as that purchased at a beauty supply.
Get a good haircut and have them cut as much of the burned damage hair off as possible. The split end will just get worse if you dont and it will end up taking longer to get it healthy and grown out. Once it gets healthier – if you just cant stand the short hair you could get extensions but that process may also cause some damage. Best if you can just focus on getting hair healthy first. Good luck…Been there – done that.
