How To Get Rid Of Brown Spots On Skin

When skin is exposed to the sun, it causes an increase in the production of cells known as melanocytes that increase melanin in the skin, thus turning the skin darker. These dark skin patches are known as brown spots, age spots, dark spots, sun spots and liver spots.

Brown spots generally appear on exposed skin areas like the face, back, neck, chest, shoulders and hands. Some of the main causes of brown spots are sun exposure, aging, and genetics. Factors like stress, pregnancy, vitamin deficiencies, and weak liver functioning may also contribute to this problem.

The spots are usually harmless, but many consider them unattractive. To lighten brown spots, you can try a few easy and natural home treatments.

I have brown spots on my arms and legs from insect bites and I have been looking for a remedy for years. I’ve tried scar creams, vitamin E oil, camphor oil, taking vitamin supplements, and even tattoo removal creams. Nothing has worked. Then I saw on TV an anti-aging cream designed to remove dark circles, and I noticed it was vitamin C based. I am going to try this rubbing lemon juice on my legs and I really hope it works. I am way too old to have mosquito scars. It looks like I have a skin disease or lesions from something way more serious than bug bite spots.
Thanks for the encouraging posts! I will update with my progress.

    Hi All,

I have some ugly brown patches on my both cheeks. I make paste; 1/4 tea spoon of Besan flour (chick pea flour) and 1/2 tea spoon of plain yogurt. apply on my whole face, massage real good specially on dark spots with fingers. Leave it for about 5 minute, the massage again and wash it off (at first leave it on only minute and then increase time, since besan flour is very acidic it may irritate your skin) It will help some. When I go on trip I use Besan flour (chick pea flour) and lemon juice. I got on this web site to see what other people are using. It made me feel so good that my home remedy is used by others. I tried expensive bleaching cream and didn’t see any better result. I use it at night time. Good Luck

About 5 yrs ago I was tan and started getting white spots on the backs of my hands.Went to the doctor and he said its like Michael Jackson its called vitiligo. Well in less then a year the white spots consumed my whole body. I lost all the pigment in my skin. Now I can’t go in the sun at all without getting red bumps and my skin tone is pale pink. To top that off now I get dark brown spots on my arms and legs. If I get a spot on one side it will come up in the exact same place on the other side of my arm or leg or face. Im use to the ugly brown spots but I hate being so white. I grew up in the sun on the beach. Help please

I have something very similar to you, but mine was diagnosed as tinea versicolor…but when I go out in the sun, huge brown and white blotches shown up all over me and many are identical on both sides of my body. Mine is caused by a fungal infection on my skin activated by too much yeast on my skin.had it for 6 years now… finally disappearing now that I take 3 antifungals – oil of oregano, cinnamon and garlic supplements….also rub my skin down with tub of oils (coconut, lavender, oregano oil and tea tree) after 2 weeks, all the spots have really faded and no new ones have popped up.

Like the old saying goes, slow and steady wins the race. The Dr Max Powers Scar Serum actually works for dark spots. But you will not get overnight results. I have several dark spots from scars, acne spots, and simply having fun as a kid. I have always used palmers cocoa butter for my scars for years and thought id switch it up. I used it every day faithfully for 2 weeks before I saw a slight change. Another 2 weeks before I seen a more noticeable change. They are still there but less noticeable.
All in all the product does work, shipping was fast

I have visited dermatologist on several occasion and they said its fungi infection. The dermatologist prescribed oral intraconazole and selenium sulphide which i used but no improvement and they are nt helping matters. The spot like little, little rashes that join together to form a large spot is on my neck, chest, back, arms and lapse. I have been using lemon juice for three weeks now but have not really seen any improvement. Any one with idea of what i can use?

Apple cider vinegar works well for brown spots. I just use a cotton ball and put it on the spots without diluting it. If you drink water with 2 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar in it twice a day it is also suppose to help spots and also fade veins.

Easier way is to use dilute concetrated lemon juice; mixed with honey and use a paper towel as face mask. The honey keeps the towel moist for half an hour that give the skin enough time to absorb the Vitamin C. Dark spot remover basically is vitamin C plus some acidic cream that help to penetrate the skin and it costs you $20+(50ml). Don’t mix lemon (acid) with milk (weak base). Also Vitamin D+E pill is cheap, dissolve it with hot water and put it on a wet paper, keep the towel moist for half an hour. A few drops of rubbing alcohol also helps to penetrate the skin.

Tx a million to all for suggestions. My body is covered with brown spots. I’m going to try the lemon juice & coconut oil. BTW: I tried tsp of coconut oil in mouth to whiten teeth. Works! Nothing else did and I tried it all. Hold in mouth 10-15 mins (I swish mine around & suck/push between teeth) & then spit out. You can rinse with warm water afterwards. Now: Anybody know how to get rid of WHITE spots? They came out like all at once while sun bathing. Like the tan part separated into patches and I was left with white dots all over. Derm. Dr. says my cells reproduce too fast and new ones attach to old ones (on top of them) before old ones fall off. They are raised higher than rest of skin and can be scratched off (not completely) somewhat. When dry, looks like flour or dry cement. I’ve picked & picked but there’s millions of them! and they come back after I scratch them flat. Dr. says inherited, not dangerous or catching; just ugly. I use cream every day over entire skin but even so, in bed, the spots/cells dry and fall off (especially since I toss & turn a lot) and then they seems to curl up and feel like a zillion little egg shell pieces. I’m constantly brushing them off sheets. They fall under your body as it is heaviest place and so they naturally slide down under you. Very, very irritating. Any of you had experience? Know anything that might help? I’d be forever absolutely 100% grateful!!–Tx for consideration.–I’m new here–Marty

It could be psoriasis. In which case you need to see a dermatologist and spend 15-20 minutes a day in the sun.

I have to tell you – the lemon juice WORKS! I’m 48 – started having dark spots – the size of a pencil eraser – nothing bad, just dark spots.
Started using the lemon juice – and it works like a charm! You can’t even see them now! So I’m only using the lemon juice when I see dark spots on my face 🙂

Darkened skin can also result from a combination of sun exposure and an allergic reaction, usually to a specific plant or chemical,……..Be careful so lime causes it but lemon juice reduse it …

I have been using Baby Oil with aloe vera already in it and I grate the skin of a lemon or two and put it in the bottle and shake it every day. I was surprised to see the dark spots on my legs slowly fading. I’m so pleased. It takes a long time, but it certainly helps one’s self confidence to see them gradually fading. However, I have read a book that says baby oil, which is mineral oil, does not go into the skin as successfully as vegetable oil, e.g. olive oil, so I’m going to try that. Also, I have tried ground liquorice root added to this mixture and that seems to be working well too. Liquorice is a natural whitener.

By the way, my dermatologist suggested a chemical peel for my lower legs at great expense. You can do a chemical peel yourself on your face or legs. Just look it up on the internet. You can also buy a kit. The clinic did a patch test with laser and chemical peel. The chemical peel worked the best. Be careful and it’s better to do a weak solution first. This is a faster method than the lemon juice, and you can do it over and over again. The chemical peel is done with aspirin tablets and a couple of other ingredients that you will probably have in your cupboard. make sure you use the correct measurements as you could get a nasty burn. I can’t remember all the ingredients (about 3) unless I look it up.

Brown discolorations on the skin can be from certain perfumes used and when those areas are exposed to the sun, they will turn brown. Not all perfumes will do this and it’s better to be safe than sorry, so apply perfume to areas that will not be exposed to the sun.

Go at night, go in a hot tub, to get rid of the brown dots on your hand I had them the past nights, and it got the majority of it off, but the rest use your other hand to rub it off.

  63. BB says:

I’ve spent hundreds on prescriptions written by dermatologists, including very expensive ‘Blue Light’ painful treatment that promised to remove all actinic kertosis brown spots. Blue Light treatment did NOTHING to dissipate the persistent ‘masque of pregnancy’ brown splotches above my upper lip that I’ve had most of my life; I’m 65. With some time and nothing to lose, I applied ACV directly on facial brown spots, twice a day for a week. After day three it stung a lot but continued for another 4 days. Area progressed from bright red to a brown crusting over – looked very ugly. When I couldn’t stand it any longer, I let the spots heal over and stopped the ACV. It’s tempting to pick at it, but better results if, over time it slowly comes off in tiny flecks when showering. I continued to apply ACV for the next month and after about 6 months, ALL DARK SPOTS ARE GONE, and my skin looks GREAT – NO brown spots. For less than $4.00 accomplished the same as over a thousand dollars spent at dermatologist. Consult dermatologist to make sure you have nothing more severe than surface AK’s and not basal cells. Hope this is helpful! Thank you ACV blogs!!!!!
