Home Remedies for Wrinkles

Some people go to great lengths to avoid looking in the mirror when wrinkles start to multiply as they age. Wrinkles are caused by thin, sagging skin. They particularly appear on the face, neck, backs of hands, and tops of forearms.

wrinkles diagram

Wrinkles occur as part of the natural aging process, when the collagen and elastin in the connective tissue of the skin become weak and break down due to changes in fibroblasts that produce collagen and elastin.

Premature or excess wrinkles can also be caused by factors like too much exposure to sunlight or harsh environments, smoking, use of certain drugs, excessive stress, sudden weight loss, loss of vitamin E, and genetic predisposition.

There are many easy home remedies that will help reduce wrinkles and prevent new ones from forming.

Wrinkles home remedies

Here are the top 10 home remedies for wrinkles.

1. Olive Oil

Olive oil is a great massage oil for your skin. It is a good source of antioxidants, like vitamins A and E, which fight skin-damaging free radicals.

  • Regularly massaging olive oil onto the affected skin area will moisturize, repair and even regenerate skin cells. As the oil penetrates deep into the skin, it provides long-lasting protection and keeps it moisturized.
  • Another option is to mix a few drops of honey with a few drops of olive oil and glycerin. Massage the mixture into your skin twice daily. This will eliminate dead cells and help tighten sagged skin.

You can also massage your skin with coconut oil, emu oil, almond oil or vitamin E oil to prevent and reduce wrinkles.

2. Fenugreek

Fenugreek leaves, seeds and even oil work as an antidote for different skin problems, including wrinkles. The leaves are rich in vitamins and minerals that are easily absorbed by the body and help treat wrinkles and fine lines when this remedy is used regularly.

  • Grind a handful of fresh fenugreek leaves to make a thick paste. Apply the paste on your face and leave it on overnight. In the morning, wash it off with lukewarm water.
  • You can also wash your face with water boiled with fenugreek seeds or apply fenugreek oil on your wrinkles and fine lines.

3. Aloe Vera

The aloe vera plant contains malic acid that helps reduce wrinkles by improving the elasticity of your skin.

  • Simply cut an aloe vera leaf from the plant and extract its gel. Apply the fresh gel onto your skin and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes. Wash it off with lukewarm water.
  • Another option is to mix one teaspoon of aloe vera gel with the contents of a vitamin E capsule. Apply the mixture to areas where wrinkles are forming. Leave it on half an hour and then wash it off with lukewarm water.

4. Ginger

Ginger works as an excellent anti-wrinkle remedy due to its high antioxidant content. Moreover, it helps inhibit the breakdown of elastin, one of the main causes of wrinkles and fine lines.

  • Mix a pinch of grated ginger with a tablespoon of honey. Eat this mixture every morning.
  • You can also drink ginger tea twice daily.

5. Bananas

Bananas are rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that combat the causes of wrinkles and fine lines. Using this remedy twice per week will rejuvenate your skin and treat wrinkles in a natural manner.

  • Mash two ripe bananas into a thick paste. Apply the paste on the wrinkled areas. Leave it on for at least a half an hour and then wash it off with lukewarm water. Follow it with some skin moisturizer.
  • Alternatively, you can use a mixture of one mashed banana and avocado, along with a little honey. Slather it on your skin, lave it on for 20 minutes and then wash it off.

6. Almonds

Almonds are an excellent source of fiber, vitamin E, iron, zinc, calcium, folic acid, and oleic acid, which combined can delay the aging process and treat wrinkles.

  • Soak some almonds in raw milk overnight. In the morning, remove the skin and grind the almonds into a thick paste. Apply the paste onto your skin, and even under your eyes to get rid of dark circles. Leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes and then wash it off with lukewarm water. For best results, do this daily.
  • You can also massage almond oil into your skin to delay the effects of aging.

    1. i can testify how hood using live oil can be !

I am 45 and have been rubbing in a little teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil around my eyes and frown lines every night for about 3 years and you cannot even see my lines they are so fine…people often think I’m only 35….olive oil really works. Just use it regularly for real benefits.

        1. as long as it is olive oil.. meaning, extra virgin OLIVE oil (cooking) is just same with olive oil.. just a little difference since virgin olive oil is more concentrated than just olive oil.. take note.. that could be cooking or use as topical.

      1. Hi
I am also 45, and i was searching remedies to reduce wrinkles, after reading your points, i have decided to do the same from today onwaeds

    1. From my own experience, ginger should definitely not be put on the face, or anywhere on the body except the head for that matter. Ginger is a key ingredient for hair growth, and I used to put it on my head for fuller hair. Sometimes it would drip onto my face and after a while, hair started growing on my face where the ginger dripped. Not like a gorilla, but noticeable black peach fuzz. Do NOT put ginger on your face at all costs, unless you want hair growing on your face.

      1. Can you tell me what to do with the ginger for hair growth….very fine hair and had terrible experience with bad hairdresser

  1. To avoid wrinkles is get away from stress, always think positive, drink a lot of water at least 7-8 glass per day and lastly have a good sleep habit 7-8 hrs a day….

  2. I use extra virgin olive oil to take my makeup off at night it leaves my face feeling soft and it takes all the dirt makeup off use quarter size amount in hand rub together to get warm then rub on face take warm to hot washrag to wipe off it leaves your hands soft also….its great!

  3. Love some great home remedies. I still rely on cucumbers or cooled tea bags for puffiness and I swear those are old as the hills…but some natural remedies stand the test of time. 😉

  4. I’m using lemon, cucumber and olive oil currently as a natural remedy for curing my wrinkles.
The results have been really amazing, i must say outstanding. Cucumber and olive oil help me a lot and much faster as compared to the lemon.
Moreover, it’s my hobby to eat at least 3 cucumbers a day. Would their be a bad effect on eating that much cucumbers and daily yet no so far and i hope nothing happens in the future too. Just asking
    Thanks 🙂

  5. I love making a mask of the tea from one family size green tea bag, a squeeze of fresh lemon (maybe a teaspoon or so) and a tablespoon of local honey (any honey is good but I like fresh local) combine into a paste and pat on a clean face. Let sit 30ish minutes and rinse. It is fairly messy so I usually do one before a shower. If mask is to thin add more honey. I put it on my neck too! Your face will feel so fresh and look bright afterwards!

  6. I absolutely love this product. I used to have to pile concealer under my eyes to hide the dark circles I don’t have to anymore because this product now I look even younger than ever. This also tightened my skin too. It smells good & feels good on your skin leaving your skin feeling invigorated and moisturized. Must have facial cream.

  7. Hi, for almost 3 years now I have been using to wash my face organic honey and coconut oil and for moisturizing I use Sweet Almond Oil. I am 52 years old and everyone thinks I’m 35 years old. My skin is tight and it is blemish free and it is beautiful.

  8. For a little over two years now, I have been cleaning my face with honey and Sweet Almond Oil and moisturizing my face with Olive Oil. I am 52 years old, but everyone thinks that I am 35. My skin is blemish free, smooth looking and I look beautiful. . I will never go back to cream cleansers and moisturizers.

  9. Thanks for these remedies it’s very helpful I prefer use herbal rather than any. I would like to know what remedies are for bladder incontinence

    1. Hi the best thing for your bladder is to exercise your pelvic floor muscle – build it up each day – start by pulling it up 5 times and holding for the count to 5 relax then pull up 5 times more but doing it quickly and releasing quickly repeat morning and night – increasing gradually up to 10 times. Once you notice a differece reduce to doing every 3rd day and continue for life as this muscle has got to be exercised as all should be. Good luck I hope this has been helpful x

  10. Thank you for these remedies specially olive oil it works wonder I’ve use it for only one week my face is smooth looks like im 30years ald

  11. In my case I’ve found that taking gelatin, which converts in the body to collagen (essential for smooth skin), has been the best way to get rid of wrinkles over time. You have to take it consistently, though. I learned about this from the book “Sip Away Your Wrinkles.”

  12. I am with all my honesty highly impressed by all the natural home remedies on offer. To combat sagging skin and wrinkles in an advanced age does not seem to be an easy task. (EIGHTY PLUS). I have had a few procedures done in the past, which prooved very costly and after a few years after gain, returned to the same face.
Although I will try to fight to look somewhat fresher, to match my personality. I have always looked younger then my years. My only regret is that I did not know about all these “goodies” available to people who can not afford or prefer natural remedy.
I at the moment use :glycerin, olive oil and honey, egg white and castor oil, rosewater and rice powder. I do not mind to experiment more. My only worry is, nothing will be fast enough.
I thank very much the panel to enable to reach beyond cosmetics for the less fortunate.
Once again, many thanks, keep going as I will try to follow in rejuvenation.
    Best regards Olga.

    1. I wanted to now abt the ginger
The mixer of ginger do I just need the water to put it on my scale just as onion water and how often do I use it

  13. I love eyerid serum! It makes me feel so refreshed when I put it on and then my skin feels so soft and rejuvenated. I am still young so don’t have many wrinkles so I cannot comment on its effect for wrinkles, but it has evened my skin tone some, which I am loving because I don’t have very good skin.

  14. Thanks I will try the olive oil or virgin olive oil. Also i try drinking ginger in tea as it is high in anti oxidant and eat ginger in honey. I hope it works. Which one is better virgin olive oil or olive oil?

  15. Whenever I tell my friends to use olive oil they look at me like I’m crazy! Most would rather stick with their anti aging cream. I mean, the results look great, but I think it’s important to mix in some natural elements with using the wrinkle cream.

For me, I’ve found great success with drinking more water, taking slightly colder showers so I don’t dry out my skin, and using a great moisturizer like olive oil to seal and protect skin. But using an anti wrinkle cream is a good method to pair with this routine for maximum results.

  16. Thank you for all those lovely remedies. I will try them all.
I already use almond, coconut, olive oil on my skin they all are good.
    Kind regards

  17. Hi. It says – Another option is to mix a few drops of honey with a few drops of olive oil and glycerin. Massage the mixture into your skin twice daily. This will eliminate dead cells and help tighten sagged skin. – do you massage mixture into face and then wash it out or just apply like a moisturiser day and night?

  18. I’m using coconut oil on my skin,I put it in my bath,I remove my make up with it. I even sleep with it on my face. and slowly my crows feet are disappearing, and I’m 45. I do have anti aging creams aswell. I also try to get 8 hours sleep a night too. It’s all helping.

  19. At night I clean my makeup off with coconut oil (nothing fancy either just a cheaper brand I picked up at walmart). Sometimes I use a bar of charcoal soap to on top of the cc oil. I use warm water and sometimes a really warm wash cloth to rinse my face. Once my face is dried, I add a little more coconut oil to my face. I notice a big difference in my fine lines within just a few days and even more so as I continue to use the cc oil. I also will put it on and leave the cc oil on my face while I shower and then rinse it off at the end. I have even stopped using he Oil of Olay eye creams. The Couconut Oil does much better, for me anyways, than those did.
