Waking up to a face full of acne can be a devastating sight early in the morning. You may become conscious of your looks and resign yourself to layers of makeup in a bid to hide those zits. You may be tempted to pick on your pimples too to demolish its presence and end up leaving a scar on your face.
These pimples, or pustules, that usually occur on the face as red spots are termed as acne. These may be filled with pus and can also be present in the chest, neck, and back.
Mostly people between the ages 12 and 25 are affected by this condition.
A study conducted in 2013 and published in Pediatrics states that acne is the most common skin disorder in the United States. It affects almost 85 percent of the young population that lies between the ages of 12 and 24 years and affects 40–50 million individuals each year in the United States itself.[1]

What Causes Acne?
Acne occurs when there is a buildup of dead skin and oil on the skin surface, which acts as a breeding ground for bacteria. Acne can be triggered by many factors:
- Fluctuation in hormonal levels due to factors such as the onset of puberty, menstrual cycle, pregnancy, menopause or any condition that causes hormonal imbalance
- Use of contraceptive pills
- Certain medications such as those for epilepsy and depression
- Heavy cosmetic makeup
- Friction on the skin caused by bike helmets, sports equipment, or backpacks
- A family history of acne
What are the Types of Acne?
Acne can manifest itself as:
- Pimples
- Solid raised bumps called papules
- Pus-filled surface bumps called pustules
- Cystic acne that occurs as a result of cyst formation
- Deep firm pus-filled bumps called nodules
- Large deep pus-filled pockets called abscesses
- Whiteheads, which are caused by a blockage of tiny hair follicles by sebum and dead skin and are formed at the tip of every pimple
- Blackheads, which are formed when a hair follicle is blocked at the surface of the skin
How is Acne Diagnosed?
Acne can be diagnosed by examining your body parts. The severity of your condition is determined by the number of acne spots, degree of inflammation, and intensity of pain.
Acne can be categorized into four grades:
- Grade 1 is the mild form of acne, which is restricted to whiteheads and blackheads, with a few papules and pustules.
- Grade 2 is the moderate form of acne, which encompasses the face with multiple pustules and papules.
- Grade 3 acne is characterized by multiple pustules, papules, and inflamed nodules extended to the back and chest.
- Grade 4 is the severe form of acne marked by large painful nodules and pustules.
What are the Conventional Treatments for Acne?
Several over-the-counter topical creams and ointments are available to treat acne. Usually available in topical forms, these treatments work by eliminating the excess oil from the skin and reducing the appearance of new pimples.
Standard treatments for acne include topical and oral medications containing:
- Antibiotics
- Retinoids
- Hormonal agents
What are Simple Ways to Deal with Acne?
Although there is no definitive cure, there are many simple and easy natural remedies using common ingredients found in your pantry and refrigerator to prevent or minimize the problem.
Instead of shelling out a fortune on beauty products and side-effect-laden expensive treatments, try to include natural solutions in your skin care routine and see your pimples fade away.
Check out the most tried-and-tested remedies to wipe away acne from your skin.
1. Give Your Skin a Gentle Oatmeal Rub
Oatmeal is beneficial in reducing acne as it cleanses your skin pores and absorbs excess oil. Its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory nature helps clear the acne away.
An added perk is it can exfoliate your skin and help in scraping away the dead skin cells.
A study published in 2012 in the Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology supported the effectiveness of oatmeal on various dermatologic diseases caused by inflammation such as atopic dermatitis, acneiform eruptions, pruritus, and viral infections.[2]
- Mix 1 teaspoon of honey and the juice of half a lemon in 1/4 cup of cooled cooked oatmeal.
- Gently rub this mixture on your skin.
- Leave it on for 30 minutes and then rinse it off with lukewarm water.
- Do this once or twice a week.
2. Apply a Paste of Aspirin
Aspirin contains the chemical acetylsalicylic acid, which is related to salicylic acid, the key ingredient of the several over-the-counter topical acne treatment products.[3][4][5]
This chemical compound can reduce inflammation and shrivel the pimple eventually.
- Crush one aspirin in enough water and make a paste.
- Use a cotton swab or Q-tip to apply the paste directly onto the pimple.
- Rinse it off after 10 minutes with warm water.
- Repeat once or twice a week.
3. Try Lemon Juice
The acidic property of lemon can be very useful in treating acne. Lemon cleans out the dirt that has accumulated in the pores and hardens the sebum. You can use it on your skin daily, but if it is too drying, then use it every 2 or 3 days.
A 2018 study published in the Journal of Physics stated that lemon juice inhibited the growth of Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis, which can cause acne.[6]
- Rub a slice of lemon on the affected area and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing your face with water.
- You can also mix lemon juice with rose water in equal amounts, apply it on your face and then rinse it off after 15 minutes.
4. Dab Tea Tree Oil
Another popular natural treatment for acne is tea tree oil. Tea tree oil acts as an antiseptic and disinfects the pores.[7]
A 2007 study published in the Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology found that topical 5 percent tea tree oil is an effective treatment for mild to moderate acne vulgaris.[8]
In addition, it helps kill the bacteria that cause acne.
- Just apply 1 drop of tree tea oil mixed with 1 drop of coconut oil or jojoba oil to the affected area three times a day.
- If the application of tea tree oil causes skin irritation, redness, or excessive dryness, then use tea tree oil diluted in water or mix it with aloe vera gel and then apply.
5. Apply Aloe Vera Gel
The soothing and anti-inflammatory properties of aloe vera can treat acne in a matter of a few days. Aloe vera gel is also helpful in healing the scars caused by acne.[9][10]
A study published in the Asian Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggested that oral intake of aloe vera juice may be helpful in patients with mild to moderate acne vulgaris by decreasing the non-inflamed and total facial acne lesion counts, but this beneficial effect is not significant when compared with that of the controls.[11]
- You can buy aloe vera gel from the supermarket or grocery store or get pure aloe vera gel by cutting a leaf off an aloe vera plant and scooping the gel out of it. Apply the aloe vera gel to the affected areas twice daily for 20 minutes.
6. Put an Ice Pack
Using an ice pack can constrict your pimple by decreasing the blood supply to it. Applying an ice pack can help reduce the inflammation by reducing the swelling and redness associated with it.[12]
- Wrap 2–3 ice cubes in a washcloth or paper towel and place it on the affected areas for a while.
7. Use Basil
Basil is a renowned herb used in traditional medicine to treat a host of maladies.
This is due to the fact that basil abounds in potent antiviral and antibacterial properties that can help get rid of various skin and health conditions such as acne, rashes, eczema, fever, and sore throat, to name a few.
Basil can help counter the pimple-causing bacteria P. acnes and, in turn, heal the acne outbreak.[13]
A study published in the International Journal of Cosmetic Sciences supported the efficacy of formulations containing sweet basil oil over those containing holy basil oil against P. acnes.[14]
- Consume basil tea to avoid acne that is a result of hormonal imbalance.
- You can use holy basil tea as a topical solution to spritz on your skin as a toner.
- Alternatively, you can add basil essential oils in your homemade face masks, exfoliating scrubs, or cleansers.
8. Apply a Speck of Toothpaste
The toothpaste that you use regularly to clean your teeth can also help clear up an acne problem. This is, in fact, one of the easiest home remedies for acne. The toothpaste will reduce the swelling and dry out the acne.[15]
- Apply a small amount of white toothpaste on the affected area before going to bed. if you have somewhat sensitive skin then you can rinse it off after 5 minutes, else you can leave it on overnight. Within a day or two, you should see significant improvement.
9. Rub Garlic
The topical application of garlic can help clear away the acne on your skin.
The antibacterial compound in garlic called allicin gives it its antiseptic properties that help fight the bacteria in your skin.[16]
A 7.5 percent concentration of garlic juice has anti-acne activity towards Propionibacterium acnes.[17]
- Directly apply half a garlic clove on the blemish. Wash it off after 5 minutes. Be careful not to apply fresh garlic near the eyelids, lips, or sensitive skin areas.
- Alternatively, you can make a paste of garlic and rub its juice directly on your pimples.
10. Smear the Paste of Turmeric
Turmeric has been a part of the skin care routine of South Asian women for a long time.
The bioactive component of turmeric, curcumin, is a potent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and wound healer.
With all that it offers, turmeric has therapeutic effects on acne-prone skin.[18][19][20]
- Use 1 teaspoon turmeric and enough coconut oil to make a paste. Alternatively, you can mix ¼ teaspoon of turmeric and 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel to make a paste.
- Apply this paste on the acne-prone skin and the surrounding areas.
- Let it sit for 15 minutes. Wash it off thereafter.
- Apply this paste for three to four times a week as needed.
11. Use Green Tea
Green tea contains an abundance of phytochemicals, namely, flavonoids and tannins. These biomolecules can help fight inflammation and bacteria and reduce the production of sebum, which can cause pimples and acne.
Green tea also contains an antioxidant called epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), which can help counter the production of sebum, inflammation, and the production of P. acnes in people with acne-prone skin.[21]
It has also been found that the topical application of 2–3 percent green tea extract on the skin can curtail the production of sebum and pimples in people with acne.[22]
Green tea has made it in the beauty industry in the form of body washes, face washes, creams, and lotions.
You can prepare your own green tea solution to care for your acne-prone skin.
- Put a green tea bag in boiling water for 3–4 minutes. Let it steep.
- Allow it to cool.
- Take a Q-tip or a cotton ball and dip it into the solution and apply it on your skin. Alternatively, you can pour the solution into a spray bottle and use it when needed.
- Let the green tea solution dry. Rinse your skin with clean water and pat it dry.
Drinking green tea to cure acne still requires further research.
12. Slather Honey
Honey is an age-old remedy that treats a number of skin conditions.
Aside from being a well-known antibacterial and wound healer, honey is replete with antioxidants that can help clear debris from clogged pores.[23][24]
- Clean your hands. Using a finger or a cotton pad, drizzle a little honey onto the pimples.
- Additionally, you can also add honey to your face masks.
14. Use Powdered Orange Peel
The acidic property and high vitamin C present in orange make it a perfect remedy for acne. You can use the juice from the orange as well as its peel, but the peel is more effective.[25][26]
- Keep some orange peels in the sun and let them dry out completely.
- Grind the dried peels into a powder and add water to make a paste.
- Apply the paste on the affected area and leave it on for 10–15 minutes. Then, wash your face with warm water.
15. Mask It Up with Fenugreek
The herb fenugreek can also be used in the treatment of acne due to its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antiseptic properties.[27]
- Mix fresh fenugreek leaves with water to make a smooth paste. Apply the herbal paste on the affected area and leave it on for about 10–15 minutes. Then, wash your face with warm water. Repeat the process for 3–4 days to allow the acne to heal.
- Alternatively, grind 1 teaspoon of fenugreek seeds into a fine powder and add a little warm water to it to make a paste. Apply this paste on the affected area. Leave it on for about 20 minutes or overnight, and then rinse it off. Do this two or three times a week.
16. Apply a Paste of Indian Lilac
Indian lilac, also known as neem, can be used for the treatment of various skin problems. It contains antiseptic and antimicrobial properties that help kill the bacteria that cause acne. Also, it soothes the redness and inflammation of skin breakouts.[28][29][30]
- Make a paste of tender Indian lilac leaves by adding a little water. Add some turmeric powder to the paste and then apply it on the affected area. Leave it on for 20 minutes and then wash it off. Do this at least twice a week.
- You can also apply neem oil a few times a day until you see improvement.
Tips to Follow During an Acne Outbreak
These self-help techniques may be useful:
- Use a very mild cleanser or soap to wash the affected areas. Use lukewarm water. Extremely hot or cold water can worsen your condition.
- Avoid washing your face frequently. This can cause irritation.
- Avoid picking on your acne. This can worsen your condition and result in scarring.
- Avoid using makeup and cosmetics when you are experiencing an acne breakout. Use noncomedogenic products that are water based and are less likely to block the pores on your skin.
- Make sure to remove your makeup before bedtime.
- Always take a shower soon after your exercise routine to avoid an accumulation of sweat that can cause acne.
When to See a Doctor
Every 8 in 10 teenagers are affected by acne in the United States. It may happen in mild forms in most cases. However, an estimated 70 percent of the cases of acne may be severe enough to seek treatment. It can take about 4–5 years for an untreated acne condition to settle down by itself.
Consult a doctor if your acne:
- Has appeared in a cluster with cysts and redness
- Is worsening
- Is not improving even after months of care and use of over-the-counter medications
- Is causing your face or body to form scars
End Note
These simple and easy-to-follow natural treatments for acne can solve the problem to some extent. For best results, you must also live a healthy lifestyle. If you cannot successfully treat your acne with these home remedies, you should consult a dermatologist.

i have really bad acne and im juss trying to get off of proactiv it doesnt help it gets my face addicted to proactive and when i don’t use it, it breaks out bad i need helpp
PLEASE HELP MEEEE!!!! i ant tips would help
proactive is the worst skin product to ever use, i also tried it and it destroyed my skin worse then any other product has. if i didn’t use it one day my entire face would break out. acne is one of the worst battles to go threw, in all honesty stop spending money on proactive, dont spend money on store products like oxy, clean and clear, or spectro, etc, google acne clinics where you live and see a professional about your skin.
Try to use lemon or tomatoes rub it to ur face , leave at least 20 mins. Then wash , Im also doin it til now, my face became lighter, and ur acne will gone
Thnx lynski
@Lynski, was it really effective to you? (rubbing lemon into your face)
My skin was horrible. I have sensitive skin and i strongly recommend clearasil’s rapid vanishing treatment cream. It is the best acne cream i ever tried. I usually cover the troubled areas with this product overnight. But wash face thoroughly prior. Please let me know if it worked For you
nice hope it helps
Do oil pulling. This is the only thing that could save us from the horrible acnes. But do oil pulling with complete dedication every morning without fail.
can I do oil pulling at night?
Keep usin proactive
nah dont use proactive it dosnt help its just gets u addicted
I agree on the proactive and clean and clear nothing works on my skin but there is another way for acne is rubbing alcohol
I wouldn’t use alcohol because it causes your skin to be really really really dry. Trust me I tried that and it made my skin really really dry.
I agree with the rubbing alcohol… just before bedtime and by morning you should see improvement. This helped me. Nooo proactive!
I use honey and lemon, as a mixture, and it has helped so much. I use Aveeno face lotion as a moisturizer alone with a few drops of Vitamin oil and it works wonders. Good luck!
Where do you get your Vitamin Oil from, Varina?
may I know your drop name.
I would use tooth paste it has nutrients in it like mint that causes the acne to suficate and disappear use at night before u go to sleep PS it also makes u smell good
If you have sensitive be careful of toothpaste as it might burn the skin. I’ve also used toothpaste successfully to dry out pimples.
use ice cubes instead
that’s my wish
dec ision on your hands
hahaha
Really??i will tell to my don to try toothpaste also, hope it works,,thanks!
ugh i know right :/ i have really bad acne right now because of proactiv….i actually watch this girl called, Bubzbeauty, on youtube…and she has tons of home-remedies for acne. The one i think is the most affective and it’s made my skin SOOOO much better, is by using oatmeal. You basically take plain, dry oatmeal (about one spoon is enough) You make the oatmeal wet by using water, then you have to apply the oatmeal to your face, kind of rubbing it in and you can leave some traces of the actual oatmeal on your face. (Warning..it’s kind of messy ;D) But, just let it dry and watch some TV, while waiting. Afterwards, just wash it off, and keep doing it everyday! Hope this helps 🙂
Do not use anything like proactiv, neutrogena, face cleansers, or X out. Those are all scams. Instead, what i do is get an ice cube and wrap it in paper towel, and apply it on my acne for thirty seconds each. Try this as much as possible each day and you will see differences immediately! Also, get very little baking soda and mix it with a few drops of water until it is creamy. Apply it to your face and let it stay on for half an hour, then wash it off thoroughly. Do this only twice a week or else your face will just breakout more. Stay away from dairy, sugar, excessive carbs, and junk foods. Avoid any non-organic foods because they contain fake hormones that cause extra breakouts. Drink eight cups of water a day, too. I hope this helps, because this has helped me 🙂
Incorrect. Diet has nothing to do with acne. Additionally, ice will cause blood vessels to constrict which will reduce swelling, however the chemical products sold in stores are what will actually kill the bacteria and help prevent future breakouts.
Diet has everything to do with acne
I agree on that! if we have a proper diet like eating healthy food and drink at least 8 glasses of water everyday, that will help to eliminate acne.
So wrong Anon: Diet has everything to do with acne. If what you eat contain toxins, heavy metals, man-made chemicals, GMOs & hormones, such as all junk food & carbs which are processed with tons of toxins. These toxins are expelled OUT through the skin causing inflammation which can’t fight the bacteria. The body is a wonderful miracle. Keep it healthy <3
You don’t know what GMOS are if you think they affect your acne
Diet affects acne alot since acne is somewhat caused by the foods we eat and drinking more water helps in hydrating the body and flushing out harmful toxins that cause acne.
Don’t Use Proactive .__. Use Lemon Juice It Worked Great For Me Also you Can You Egg Whites And Put Them On Your Skin For 30 Mins And It Will Look Better .
I have! Recently started using it, about three weeks ago. It is aswmoee, I feel comfortable going without make-up and that is a big deal for me because I have always been self conscious of my scars and blemishes. My friends and family always comment on how much my face is clearing up, and I feel great! After only three weeks of using it to, I can’t wait to see what a few months will do! Just make sure you use it on a regular basis, get on a schedule and it works wonders. I also find that drinking water with 1/4 of fresh lemon squeezed in it helps too. Gross, but it works. And if you’re like me, you’d do anything to have clear skin.
What are you using?
Just lemon and water.
I seriously recommened you create a rub of honey and cinnamon. If you think you need it I would add in some lemon juice. It moisterizes your skin while getting rid of blackheads and zits!
How long do you keep it for ? ♥
I have tried everything from proactive to every possible otc acne cream you get and even multiple glycolic peels – my advice is to honestly stay of chemicals and synthetic products, they do more harm than good. And there are so many natural treatments that work even faster. First, check if your acne is cause by hormone imbalance because mine was. And also, the best remedy that I found after everything was a baking soda face mask twice a week. And always using pure tea tree essential oil if im breaking out – also add a few drops of the oil to your sunscreen in the morning and your night cream so the antibacterial properties are constantly at work. I promise you’ll see a reduction, and don’t forget to watch your diet – drink plenty of water etc. Try not to get too impatient with the scars – deal with the acne first and then with the scars once you have your acne under control, its pointless otherwise. Good luck!!
I used proactive FOREVER, and it didn’t work it just irritated my skin and was VERYYY harsh. I used neotrogena and it was good but didn’t clean my acne. I just tried the apple cider vinager from another website. wonder if it works!
mine age 19years
Just try some coconut oil on your face it really works
DO NOT use Proactive. I used it before and it went worst. I got pimples all over my face. And finally I had to visit a skin doctor. Now I just apply Aloe Vera gel on my face before going to bed and rinse it off with a warm water in the morning. I hardly have 2-3 pimples on my face now 🙂
wow am gonna try that.thanx alot
realy asha thnku so much i m goning put aloe vera on my face i knw tht b4 but i never used coz i ws not confidnt thts y but nw gong it maybe work …….thnk u g …..
Thank you so much this really helped me get rid of my acne and it also helped my friends
Same here
I have 2 teenage boys that were starting to get a ton of zits because of all of the oil that their bodies were producing. I bought a small bottle of mild dish washing liquid that was under a dollar and had them wash their faces each night, before bedtime with it… (I am a broke single mom & was not able to afford too much.) This eliminated the excess oils & got their faces clean & both are clear skinned now, though they do occasionally have a small out break, when they forget to wash with the dish detergent for a week or two…
It was lemon dish washing liquid & that may have been why it helped so much. I am not sure. I just know that it helped my 2 boys a lot. Good luck guys…
Ae u doing better now? You can set up a paypal donation and I would love to donate.
if you use proactive it is like a poison it can make your face dry out my brother’s face dried up and his acne got worse use baking soda and peroxide it gets worse it bubbles out all acne then after all the the pimples are gone there are none under your skin that can form so try it (it should look like a paste after mixed)
I used to have lots of acne too and only mary kay products kept it really clear, but like you, when i stopped acne was back. Through online research i discovered that many people have been recommended by dermatologists to use clearasil. It doesnt keep my skin 100% clear but close. I combine that with clean and clear persa gel for the few breakouts i get. I wash my face at night and morning. At night i wear a light face moisturizer, and durig he day i wear sunblock under my makeup. I do use st ives apricot scrub once or twice a week. If i notice my pores too big i just a little lemon mixed w a few drops of water and voila, theyre gone. For large pores u can also try egg white with a few drops of lemon at least once a week (i swear this works magic!). I also try home made masks that work for me. If just want to clear my pores and dead cells i mix baking soda, honey and lemon and create a consistency. If i want to feel my skin really soft and brighter i mix a tbspn of oatmeal oats with water and once theyre soaked i crush them and apply that to my face until it dries. I know many home remedies, my point is try a few and see what works best for you. But as for the cleanser, id say clearasil is the best one ive used and its cheap and very gentle with skin. Good luck! I just spilled some of my secrets
Side note: try to see if some foods are triggers for your acne. This is basic, but if nothing works then try a dermatologist.
Proactiv is the worst! I had the exact same problem..i tried to get off of it three times but kept breaking out more and more. The key to getting off proactiv is to use vegetable glycerin soap and baking soda. Wash your face with veg glycerin soap. Be sure to has no colors, dyes or chemicals! Then after washing, take some baking soda and mix it with a little water to create a paste…this is a very similar exofliant to proactiv. This worked for me 🙂 you kind of have to let you face break out for a bit after coming off of this terrible product…but its worth it. just get past the transition stage!
Use fenugreek paste and apply tea tree oil in nite.
You can use a half cup of cooked steel cut oats, a quarter cup of lemon juice, 2 tablespoons of honey, and a teaspoon of mint extract,
Mix these all together, and apply to face
Leave on for about 20 mins.
The mint will leave your face a little tingly, but this is normal
I have been using this remedy for about 2 months, and my face has never been clearer, I saw results in the first 2 days, it also makes your face feel softer
These are the natural remedies that worked for me:
Honey and cinnamon mask – This is great for preventing breakouts as they both have anti-inflammatory properties and for lightening scars. You will have to look for different guides on how to mix them though as cinnamon can be harsh on the skin if applied too much, even with the honey! My mixture was 1:3, so you can try that too.
Lemon juice – Also extremely harsh on the skin if used alone so dilute it in water first.
Apple cider vinegar – Dilute it well in water. The more sensitive your skin is, the higher the ratio should be so as not to irritate it any further. You can use this as a toner or simply as a drink! It will help fight acne from the inside.
I would recommend checking out easyacneguide.com as its a great resource and has a really high quality guide for how to clear up acne. (It worked for me!) and it’s just a matter of figuring out what works more for you.
Also.. ice, ice, ice, ice. I always rub ice on my face before washing my face (both morning and night). It feels great and is a wonder for redness as well.
Proactive didn’t work for me either. Neither did strong prescription topical treatments or drugs. Your problem is internal. Not just eating a clean Paleo-type diet but, giving your body the nutritional support that it needs. I found out that I was low in zinc and had an imbalance of essential fatty acids. I also found out that some of my body’s systems needed nutritional help-blood sugar balance, digestion and liver/gallbladder. When I addressed my nutritional deficiencies and gave my body the support that it needed, my acne vanished. Everyone is different, meaning that we all have different nutritional needs and problems-like hormonal, digestion, and so on. Deficiencies is also a big thing because, even a nutrient-dense diet will be lacking in enough minerals-due to soil depletion. Also, deficiencies take a while to replenish, which is why specific supplementation is usually necessary.
My son had terrible acne on his face, arms, chest and back. I read it’s caused by many things but especially the bad bacteria in his stomach and colon. I decided to purchase a pro-biotic for him that has living organisms, 30million or so. After 2 weeks of use, he’s acne free
Thanks, will try all of these methods.
i have an acne prone skin and oily skin,i’ve tried this home remedies and it worked for me.not that fast but my face looks smoother and brighter as well as my pores and acne doesn’t trigger anymore.Ive mixed the lemon juice,1-2 table spoon of pure honey,4-5 table spoon of sugar as a scrub as wells as removing dead skin and 1-2 table spoon of green tea as anti oxidant massage this into your face and leave it for 15-30 min and you will notice the difference.Put it on the glass bottle so that you have your own home made mask.Store it in fridge for about 2 weeks.you can use this remedies twice a week or every other week.Im using this for about 2 weeks now and i assure you you won’t regret this for trying it out..:)
Jenniah,
Did you steep the green tea for your acne treatment or mix in loose tea?
ive also tried rubbing halved lemon on my face nd it wz very good though u get a slight tingling, its also very good for oily skin
Ya it may tickle and tingle and sting but it’s because its getting the dirt and get a “protective layer” in your pores
does it have to be a lemon or can it be a lime also? how long after rubbing it on your face does the acne disappear?
HW CAN LIME BE OF HELP TO ACNE ON D CHEST & ALOEVERA ALSO CAN WE USE OUR TOOTHPASTE ON D CHEST
lemon worked very well for me…but what i must do for the scars on my face..??
Rose hip oil or bio oil is suppose to be fantastic for scars =)
Try honey and limon mixed and apply Vitamin E oil on your face. The scars will noticibly diminish in as little as a few weeks.
For the scars try cocoa butter. I use it in a little yellow tube that you can get at Fred Myers.
Lemon juice is good for the scars too
these will be great for my facebook page thanxs plus i got problems and these recipes are probably the most natural ones yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Try rubbing hydrogen poroxide on the affected area. Wait for about an hour and you can already see the difference! Do this twice every day. It makes acne less red, and with time it gets rid of it completely. Also try apple cider vinegar.
I’ve done the peroxide times I broke out bad but when it’s bad acne I wouldn’t use it because it makes ur pimples and bumps on ur face turn white where it’s killing the germs and working. I have yet to figure out how to use it without my acne turning white from it. But I do know it does work!! It’s just dealing with the bumps all over ur face being white 🙁
hello Jenniah
Thanks alot for the remedy, however I am confused. Do you have to mix all of the ingredients together ?
lemon
honey
sugar
green tea
and if yes how did you add green tea? did you put the tea bag in warm water and added 2 to 3 spoons of that?
Thank you
Hello There, I was Trying Turmeric And Curd For My Acne Face…. It’s Working Step By Step…..
Ohh really nice
Best is apple cider vinegar dilute it put it on our skin for acne put in hair for no dandruff and epic softness and drink to clean your body of every thing its nasty but dilute and put meo water flavor and its not bad and put it on cuts and poison ivy….. Its aswome and pretty cheap but hast to be Braggs apple cider vinegar
Thanks for the remedies:they are really working.
To the person that said apple cider vinegar,
DO NOT use just plain apple cider vinegar!
It must be diluted with water!
A 1/2 cup of each mixed will do fine.
I use acv straight it doesnt burn 🙂
Clearasil is the best acne product to ever use!
It works so good! I have never heard of the things
Above but I will try them. My acne isn’t that bad so
I can go a day or two without using a cream and just
Washing my face but I will definitely try the ones above. Thanks!
yes: aloe Vera juice did play the role in the face that have got too much pimples
Hydrocortizone also helps lessen the redness of pimples. I have used Proactiv, as well as every other treatment under the sun, and I really believe it’s terrible for your skin. It WILL bleach your skin. It has bleach in it. A good toner- Witch Hazel. It’s about $2.00 in stores. Don’t bother paying SO MUCH MONEY on products. Otherwise, you may do much more damage than help. Don’t risk it, and don’t be manipulated. Take the natural approach. Also, the choice of makeup is vital. I know MAC is incredible. However, organic makeup does wonders for the skin. And it’s cheaper. Neutrogena works very well, but try organic.
Use Garnier pure neem activ facewash this not only clear the pimples but also the scars too…
All these remedies i’ve read all sound good…i’m gonna start today to stop my acne and get rid of my scars…i’ve had acne for years (on my face, chest and back) and could never get rid of it, i’m really fed up with it and am really ready for it to go
p.s. DON’T USE TOOTHPASTE… i just used toothpaste and now my whole face and everywhere that i applied it has a large red resh and itt does not look pretty…im not happy >:( help i need other tips plz
I used toothpaste too. I don’t know what kind you’re using, but crest works the best. Also, I stopped because my skin got too used to it. It does work though.
That sounds like an allergic reaction more than anything, toothpaste has worked for me in the past. Perhaps if you tried a different brand with other ingredients it would help you.
never mind toothpaste works AMAISINGLY it burns when u use it but its amaising
Raw honey and lemon works great mix it together and leave on face 20 min or so and rinse off i also use MSM soap witch hazel toner and MSM moisturizer which has been helping. gooogle msm soap oh and dairy usually makes me break out i drink coconut milk or almond I notice too much dairy.
Honey nd lemon very best
I have some acne mainly on my chin …coconut oil is really good for preventing acne clearing acne and the scars left behind from the acne …good luck everyone!
tooth paste works amaisingly
What kind of toothepaste? Any kind? I’ve got kids crest original kind and sensodyne too ?? Will that work?? I need help bad!! My face looks horrible and I’m so desperate right now. I’m embarSsed to even go out in public. I normally use peroxide it really helps but I don’t like the fact it turns every bump and pimple on my face white where it’s working and killing germs. PLEASE HELP lol. Sooooooo desperate!!!
I prefer to use a mix of egg whites, Greek yogurt, and dry oatmeal, it makes your skin so soft and really tightens your pores. I Usually leave it on for 15 minutes. Aldo, since I don’t have very easy access to tea tree oil and other oils, this is very simple to use. and the biggest pointer is DO NOT USE PROACTIV. Yes, it works, but if you don’t use it your skin basically goes through withdrawal, and breaks out like crazy. Not worth it if you ask me..O_O
At the moment there’s honey on my face lol I’m trying it for the first time.
I have acne on my face, back and chest and it’s been here for years and I’m so fed up I try so many things.. Important is that you give yourself a break you shouldn’t try everything at once, keep a day in between at least. I have green tea every day and also lots of water. I use tea tree face wash (Yves Rocher) and also Neem face wash. I’m gonna try the ice cubes thing and the egg whites thing.
IMPORTANT:
A note regarding the toothpaste remedy: Make absolutely sure you’ve checked the ingredient list on the tube. Some brands contain sodium hydroxide, a highly basic substance which denatures skin. What is it doing in your mouth? It balances the pH of your toothpaste. This is why we don’t swallow toothpaste. So if you’re not sure, just don’t use it on your face.
What kind do u use as in toothepaste remedy? I’ve got the kids crest and sensodyne
I use the Colgate toothpaste I hope it works, but maybe it will work cause I saw one of my female cousin was using the toothpaste and her face was clear no result of acne
Im using toothpaste . Dont use proactiv,X out,Or any other. It does not work at all but toothpaste is amazing!!!!!LOL.It might burn but it works!! I have mager problems with acne but toothpaste is helping alot! :p <3 ty toothpaste .
I use neutrogena naturals so wonderful and coconut oil and tea tree oil apple cider vinegar abs good ole toothpaste is on my face now before bed woo it tingles
I have bad acne on my legs and arms!! I’m going to try out the Tea Tree Oil, Aloe Vera Plant & Neem! HOPE IT WORKS!! 😀
Great Article! I love these! I’ll be doing this later. Thanks for the home remedies.
Fabulous list thanks….I’m the Author of The Complete Acne Book.
These ingredients are great. Tea tree is perfect for acne, so are antimicrobial and soothing essential oils like lavender, neem and and UMF honey to calm redness and beef them up (or spices like Turmeric for its healing and antibacterial properties). You can use other oils to prevent acne scars too in easy to make skin serums Really enjoyed reading your post thank you!
can u tell me ur book name so that I will go through it completely to practice acne!!!!!……. I have acne prone skin with ugly scar I hide using lot of makeover 🙁
I have read through all the remedies, but i apply tomatoe juice on my face, and it works the magic. Just apply the blended juice on your face or slice tomatoe preferably and place on the affected areas atleast twice daily and leave for 30minutes,then rinse with warm water. It works well.
Tomato í ¼í½ juice is perfect í ½í±…. I mixed it with honey tho, works like magic

crushing up some paracetomol and some hot water to make a paste helps alot! for face acne use freederm facewash it helped me alot. Also when washing your face use hot water but splash on cold last to close your pores back up to stop getting dirt into them (causing spots). Using a brown sugar and honey scrub -gently- works too. directly dab on tea tree oil to spots will also help
Thank you for sharing such great tips! Ive experienced moderate acne breakouts since I was 11. Now in my late 20s I had tried everything from chemical to natural remedies, food diets, allergy elimination, you name it. By chance, due to a tummy bug, I discovered GRAPEFRUIT. After eating ORGANIC ruby red grapefruits (a whole one, no sugar, skins peeled) or natural grapefruit seed extract (12-14 drops in 8oz of water) once a day, everyday for 7 days or so, my skin stopped breaking out. Once every few months, one or two will pop up right before my period, but I hardly notice. That was a year ago. Now, I must admit that Ive missed a few days here and there and when I do my skin reacts and breaks out a bit again. Since doing some research on grapefruit seed extract Ive chosen to just eat organic grapefruits. My favorite are larger ruby red ones. They are sweeter and super awesome (: Eating grapefruits has become a daily healing ritual for me. I am SO GRATEFUL to have found this amazing fruit has seriously changed my life, given me permission, so to speak, to feel more confident and radiate my light from within (: I just wanted to share with everyone, maybe it can help you too! (:
I used, cinnamon, honey, sugar, mayonaise, and olive oil for my acne and black + whiteheads. It worked really good! you mix them together then. Rinse your face with warm water. After that apply to your face, leave on for 10-14mins and it will help breakouts. Do it about 2 times a week for good results!
Best nd easy way to get rid of acne is to first clean ur face with rose water then take a cotton and put cool lemon juice all over your face leave your face to dry it up then massage your face with baking soda diluted with water leave it for 2-3 minutes then wash your face with a mild facewash and dry your face with a clean towel then put oil free moisturizer . Try this 3 days a week and you will get acne free skin and a natural glow
I put some toothpaste that has baking soda I used.it as a face.mask at night it worked.so well use it for about (1-3) days.
V nice tip
Plzz tell me the use of.baking soda that one use in cake or wat ?i hav baking powder can i use ?
My 13 year old daughter just recently had one little patch of irritated dry skin that was originally a bad zit above her lip and it has peeled of but a brown spot has been left behind it now, and now another one is forming on her chin. If anyone knows a good solution please let me know!!! thanks 😉
For acne scars i use half a lemon’s juice mixed with a fewdrops of water. Do it on a daily basis. After three to twoweeks she’ll see theyre almost, or already gone
I used honey, washed it off, then put toothpaste on my acne then fell asleep. when I woke up I had the biggest burn mark right inbetween my eyebrows and it was picture day.
hello frnds i want to store aloe vera gel so plz tel me that how many vitamin e tablet are neccesary to require for four aloe vera leafs?
people DO NOT USE TOOTHPASTE ON ACNE IT WILL BURN YOU!!!!! THIS IS FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!
hay guys u can try raw honey two to three times daily it really works
I really like the baking soda paste, but is it supposed to burn? Lol that alarmed me when I first put the paste on, but it stops burning (for me) after about 15 minutes 🙂
I am washing with dove bar soap. I moisurize with a home mixture of Aloe vera and tea tree oil mixed together. Together it is a great combination for combination skin. Takes care of the oil and the dryness. Also helps deal with any previous scarring and repairs damged skin, minimizes wrinkles while combating acne. I feel the time of putting harsh chemicals on the largest organ of the body which is then ingested into the cirrculatory system is over. I also suffer from eczema and use a coconut oil/aloe vera homemade body lotion which seems to keep my skin in check. All in all…it is much cheaper then buying percription anything.
i will try the pimple treatment that ive read..i hope it will help me further…
I use toothpaste for 15 to 20 minute an wash with warm water with pear oil clear soap it works like a charm

ok so i have mild-severe acne (severe when it comes to dark spots left by the acne) and ive tried everything and nothing seems to work. My skin is also VERY sensitive and VERY dry yet oily at the same time. Nothing the dermotaligists perscibed worked. I started drinking more water, adding some lemon juice. I also did my research and found a couple home remedies that seemed to do the trick for me. A couple times a week before I hop in the shower i use a banana peel and massage it around my face. Sounds weird i know but it works! I leave it on for no more than 5 minutes and wash it off. I also do this mask which consists of sugar, honey, lemon juice, green tea, and apple cidar vinegar. Burns a little, but after a couple minutes wash off and boom. Ice your face after that and within no time you’ll start to see a difference. But remember what works for me might not work for you but hope this helped and good luck!
Apply your saliva on your pimples when you wake up in the morning. It helps a lot in getting rid of acne. This is from my personal experience.
I have seen many comments what to use on the face.. Try the following and see the results within a week. Eliminate all dairy products. Just try it!

REGULARLY mosturizing my face with pure coconut oil at bed time..drinking Lemon water every morning to detoxify my body.. n icing with lemon water n aloe pulp ice cubes.. believe me..i regret why did i start all this so late.. stay blessed n healthy
Before you go to bed, put some honey on your acne, it will stay there. In the morning, wash it off.

I have a very sensitive skin & pro breakout & have a lot of dark spots due to acne scars. One of my concerns, aging skin around my eyes. I used the Citrus Clear Skin Repair Moisturizer and after 2-3 days – the lines that’s been bothering me for quite a while is lessening & the dark spots on my cheeks start to lighten! my friends saw me & said you look blooming! that’s only 2-3 days of using the Citrus clear moisturizer.
I suffer much pimples before and i try i lots of cream and medicine even soap before then I tried tootpaste ..and i can say its really effective
Really toothpaste is good rid of acne .or u saying just like that which one is good for face ..lemon or neem or fullers earth …toothpaste

Use turmeric powder with honey and lemom or lime drops and massage on to your skin and leave for 15 to 30 minutes. It will really a good anti- bacterial for acne skin.

In fact when someone doesn’t be aware of after that
its up to other users that they will help,
so here it occurs.
Try to use also the aloe Vera gel been using it since when I’m a teenager. Just continue using it and the result is really good.
Hi there! I’ve been looking a all these wonderful home remedies and it seems to me that the use of toothpaste is the easiest way to go. With that being said, does anyone know if it has to be a specific brand of toothpaste to apply on the skin? I’m currently using Aquafresh and I want to make sure if that is acceptable. Thank you for your time – have a lovely rest of your day/evening!
