DIY Hibiscus Hair Masks for Beautiful and Silky Hair

Dry hair seems to have become the order of the day for most of us. Everything from pollution to poor eating habits affects you skin and hair health.

Also, engaging in relentless styling and coloring of your hair to keep up with fashion trends is fairly common among both women and men. As a repercussion, your hair is stripped of a lot of its natural oils and nutrients, leaving your locks dry and frizzy.

Although prevention is the best cure still you can take some steps to help repair your dry and damaged hair, the best one being applying homemade deep conditioning hair packs.

Hibiscus hair masks, for instance, are great for maintaining healthy and shiny hair.

Being rich in vitamins A and C as well as amino acids, hibiscus can combat hair loss and induce hair growth. Plus, its lathery and mucilaginous nature helps mildly condition the hair and keep it bouncier.

Both the flowers and leaves of the hibiscus plant can be used to make deep-conditioning hair masks at home. Any type of hibiscus flower is good for the hair.

When preparing the hair masks, also add other hair-friendly ingredients like fenugreek seeds and yogurt.

Fenugreek, also called methi, has conditioning properties and helps thicken your hair. It also helps fight hair problems like dandruff and hair fall. Yogurt adds a lustrous sheen to your hair and also fights dandruff.

Here are 2 hibiscus hair mask recipes to help condition your hair.

How to Apply the Hair Mask

DIY hibiscus leaf hair mask

First, rinse your hair and allow it to somewhat air-dry. When your hair is still slightly damp, you can apply either of these homemade hair masks.

  1. Using your fingers or a hair brush, apply the hair mask from the roots to tips, covering each and every strand.
  2. Cover your hair with a shower cap and let the hair mask sit for about 30 minutes.
  3. Rinse your hair with water to remove all the particles of the mask.
  4. Shampoo your hair as usual, but skip the conditioner if you normally use one.
  5. After your hair is dry, the difference will be quite easy to see and feel.

If you have dry and damaged hair, use either of these masks once a week. Those who have normal hair can use the masks once every two weeks.

Additional Tips

  • Simply grinding a handful of hibiscus leaves and flowers along with a little water and applying the paste on your hair will also benefit your hair.
  • Be sure to wash the leaves and flowers to remove dust or any other impurities before using them in your mask.
  • Whenever possible, use fresh as well as healthy hibiscus leaves and flowers for these hair masks. Do not use leaves from a diseased or pest-infested plant.
  • A handful of leaves will grind smoothly in a smaller jar. If you only have a bigger jar, increase the quantity of leaves to be ground.
  • For grinding the leaves, you may also have to add a little water.
  • You can even use a pestle and mortar to make these wonderful hair masks.
  • You can use fresh aloe vera gel extracted from an aloe leaf as a substitute for soaked fenugreek seeds.
  • If you suffer from dandruff or an itchy scalp, you can add a little lemon juice to the mask.
  • Hibiscus powder is available in the market, which you can also use to make these masks.
