What can be more relieving than a cool facial mist during the sweltering summer heat! It is soothing and refreshing, and above all, it imparts a dewy glow and richness to your skin as well as offers various other benefits. The use of facial mist is not limited to the summer season. It is also good for your skin during the winter months.(1)

Using a facial mist is a calming ritual that you can follow whenever you need some relaxation. The market is flooded with all kinds of mists. However, their high price range often discourages us from buying these products.

Moreover, a number of commercial mists carry synthetic fragrances, alcohol, and various other ingredients that may cause skin irritation and dryness, especially if you have sensitive skin.

Thankfully, there is a way to enjoy the goodness of a facial mist without worrying about any side effects. Try a DIY natural facial mist that offers you the liberty to experiment with oils and ingredients of your choice.

You may use ingredients like essential oils, coconut water, rose water, plant and fruit extracts, and more. The possibilities are endless!

This weekend, play mixologist and stock your refrigerator with a batch of DIY facial sprays and mists. Read on to find a customizable, quick, simple, and refreshing DIY mist recipe you can try.

Here are a few ingredients you can experiment with in your DIY facial mist.

Cucumber is an exceptional skin calmer. Packed with ascorbic acid (vitamin C), pantothenic acid, vitamin K, retinol (vitamin A), and silica, it soothes a sunburn, hydrates the skin, reduces and controls melanin production, and helps build collagen. Cucumber shows spectacular results in soothing and softening the skin while offering a cooling effect.(2)

Lemon acts as a natural skin-lightening agent and exfoliator. It can also help prevent acne and remove excess oil. Plus, it offers invigorating and refreshing benefits that leave the skin rejuvenated, soft, and smooth.(3)

Aloe vera soothes the skin, increases blood circulation, and improves skin elasticity.(4)

Rose water is exceptionally good at hydrating and rejuvenating the skin. Due to its mild astringent properties, it also helps remove excess oil and balance the skin’s pH level. An effective skin revitalizer, it reduces redness and gives you soft, smooth, and glowing skin.(5)

Enjoy the freshness of your homemade mist. You can apply this mist up to 3 times a day.

Additional Tips

  • You can store this homemade facial mist in the refrigerator for a week. Shake well before use.
  • Instead of blending and extracting the juice from the cucumber, you can run it through a juicer to get the juice.
  • Do not throw away the remaining cucumber pulp. You can apply it on your skin as a natural face mask.
  • If you have sensitive skin, do not use lemon in the mist.
  • You can also prepare your own rose water at home. Check out the process in this post.
  • You can substitute rose water with orange blossom water or coconut water, as per your preference.
  • Exfoliate regularly to help remove dead skin cells and keep your skin smooth.
  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
  • You must never use a metal bottle for storing the mist, as metals may react and alter the properties of essential oils. Always use high-quality plastic to store the mist.
