How to Get Thicker Hair Naturally

Prev1 of 3Next

Hair loss is a common problem nowadays. As hair is regarded as an asset that enhances one’s physical appearance, balding or thinning hair is a problem that many want to correct as soon as possible.

Some of the common factors contributing to thinning hair are excessive physical or emotional stress, hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, pollution, allergies, use of wrong hair care products, poor hair care routine, and heredity.

If you have thinning hair, there is no need to spend money on expensive treatments and products. There are many natural remedies to help you get thicker and voluminous hair.

Here are the top 10 ways to get thicker hair naturally.

1. Eggs

Regular protein treatment is essential to enjoy stronger and thicker hair. For a protein hair treatment, the best ingredient is eggs.

  • Take one or two eggs, depending on the length of your hair, and beat it properly. Apply the egg on wet hair and allow it to sit for about 30 minutes. Wash your hair with lukewarm water and shampoo. You can use this protein treatment once or twice a week.
  • Another option is to mix together one egg yolk, one tablespoon of a hair oil of your choice and two tablespoons of water. Use this mixture to massage your scalp thoroughly. Follow this remedy once a week to enjoy thicker hair.

2. Olive Oil

Olive oil will also add body to your hair. Plus, it will help soften and strengthen your tresses.

  • Massage your hair and scalp with warm olive oil and leave it on for at least 30 to 45 minutes. Rinse it out thoroughly and wash your hair using a mild shampoo. You can also leave the oil on your hair overnight and then shampoo your hair the next morning.
  • Another option is to mix olive oil with some honey and apply the mixture on your hair. Leave it on for at least 30 minutes and then wash your hair.

Use either or these remedies once or twice a week.

3. Avocado

Avocado can also be used to get thicker hair as it moisturizes and adds body to your hair. Plus, the vitamin E in this fruit contributes to the overall health of the hair shaft.

  • Make a mixture of one mashed avocado, one mashed banana and one tablespoon of olive oil. Massage it on your scalp and leave the mixture on your hair for about 30 minutes so that the nutrients are absorbed by the scalp. Finally, rinse it out and shampoo your hair.
  • You can also make a hydrating hair mask by mixing two tablespoons of wheatgerm oil with half of a ripe mashed avocado. Apply this hair mask on freshly shampooed hair and allow it to sit for at least 20 minutes. Rinse your hair thoroughly and then shampoo your hair.

Use either of these avocado hair masks once a week.

4. Fenugreek Seeds

Fenugreek seeds can also be used to prevent hair loss and enjoy better hair growth.

  • Soak two to three tablespoons of fenugreek seeds in water for eight to 10 hours. Grind the soaked seeds to make a fine paste. You can also mix two teaspoons of coconut milk in it. Apply the paste on your hair and scalp and allow it to sit for about 30 minutes before washing your hair with lukewarm water. When done weekly on a regular basis, this remedy will prevent dry scalp and help you enjoy thicker hair.
  • Another option is to use the water that the fenugreek seeds soaked in overnight as a hair rinse. This will encourage hair growth and help you to get rid of dandruff. Use it once or twice a week.

5. Indian Gooseberry

The anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial and exfoliating properties present in Indian gooseberry can help a lot in maintaining a healthy scalp and better hair growth rate.

  • Mix one tablespoon of Indian gooseberry or amla powder in two tablespoons of coconut oil and heat until boiling. Strain the oil and massage it onto your scalp before going to bed. The next morning, shampoo your hair as usual. Do this on a weekly basis.
  • Another option is to mix one-quarter cup of warm water in one-half cup of Indian gooseberry powder and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Apply the paste on your hair and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing it off. Do not shampoo your hair for a few hours. Follow this remedy every few weeks.
  • You can also take the Indian gooseberry fruit and its extract as a dietary supplement for healthy hair.

6. Castor Oil

Massaging your scalp regularly with cold-pressed castor oil is one of the easiest ways to get thicker hair naturally. Due to its high viscosity, it coats the hair thoroughly and protects against hair fall. Plus, being high in vitamin E and fatty acids, it promote hair growth.

  1. Heat a mixture of equal parts of castor oil and coconut oil. Aimply using castor oil will also work but it tends to be too thick.
  2. Apply it on your head and scalp and massage in circular motions.
  3. Comb your hair to distribute the oil throughout your hair and remove tangles.
  4. Cover your hair with a towel moistened with warm water.
  5. Leave it on for at least one hour and then shampoo your hair as usual.
  6. Follow this remedy once a week to enjoy lustrous and thick hair.

      • One of the reasons ur hair is falling is because u wash it everyday. That makes ur hair fall Very Very badly. I’ll give u some tips that worked for me. I had very curly, thin and short hair but now I have thick hair which falls to my waist! This is wat I use: castor oil mixed with almond oil (or olive oil) I use this everyday or sometimes after every 2 days. And also the shampoo and conditioner that I use and realllllllly helped me are Mane ‘n Tail- if u live in uae or india (asia basically) u can get them at Spinney’s- and I use egg for my hair and if ur growing out ur hair then STAY AWAY FROM HEAT (hair straighteners, blow dryers etc) because trust me, if u use heat on ur hair it will not grow quickly. Especially for people with curly hair. And do not use hair sprays or heat protectants they really damage ur hair and make it dry.

  8. I STARTED AROUND THE BEGINNING OF THIS YEAR- (:

with exfoliating, lightening, enhancing, smoothening my skin. Mostly my face, but my body aswell. I couldn’t believe it when i camp upon this information.

And yesterday, I exfoliated my scalp.
Exfoliating is when you remove the dead skin cells from the area which you assert it. it leaves it with the underlying glow of your true skin, beaming and pleasant.

Exfolating should be done twice a week (I do it about 4 days apart)

So, i exfoliated my hair, using honey, sugar, and lemons.

Now, i know, you might ask, what is the purpose of all these items?!?!!?

    I will start with Sugar.

    1. Sugar.

This is the main item for my exfoliating , scrubbing it (though not harshly) on your skin is what encourages your dead skin cells to go away.

    2. Lemon

Lemon is normally used for skin lightening masks. I’ve done crazy things with lemon. Honestly :)
But through everything I learned, Lemon truly does help with hair growth. I can’t even describe it with the proper words it deserves. It leaves that soft, shining texture and color. it allows your hair to look free.. and… Just see for yourself, will you? And personally, i believe that one-day-over-ripe-day is the best way (:

    And lastly, 3. Honey

Honey should be added to everything you create for a DIY mixture. NEVER, EVER , leave it out. It’s like liquid to a very solid, healthy meal. If you truly want to know what’s so great about honey, go to ‘Health Benefits of Honey on Your Face’ by searching it on Google, of course.

By The Way, I use honey as my lotion.
I sometimes add green tea to the mixture, or i open the green tea pack and smother it on my face, it works just like sugar, but not as efficient.

This is my daily routine , on a normal day :

    1. Wash my face. (hot water)
    2. Apply honey to my face (whilst in the bath)
    3. Since I bathe quite long, i allow the honey to sink in to my skin , using my fingers and the wonderful steam.
    4. Rinse my face. (cold water)
    5. Apply moisturizer (spf 25)
    6. (Night) Wash my face. (Hot, then cold)
    7. Apply Honey. (making sure that it truly sinks in)

Did you know, that sleeping on the sides of your face can also be the cause of wrinkle marks on your face as you age?

I tried sleeping on my head, my face pointing towards the ceiling, and it just didn’t work out for me. So to help me, i put honey in my eyes.
    Worked like a charm.
    And the benefits?
Glowing bright eyes, with luxurious eyelashes.

I can’t possible type all I have done , and my findings in the reply, But i hope that you reply to me, and ask me things in whichever you want to know.

      • To the ladies asking about lightening your eye color–it’s not possible, don’t put anything in your eyes –or you are liable to harm them. Love the eyes you have, or invest in contact lenses to change the color of the iris, but don’t believe anyone if they tell you that you can lighten your eye color.

      • Search for people whose eyes have changed colour naturally thanks to a raw diet. Thats the only time I’ve heard of eyes becoming lighter. don’t put anything in your eyes apart from sterile herbal eye drops – eyes are fragile!!!

      • Sangeetha… I have fine blond hair. I have tried 100′s of products. Some hairdressers over process. (if you ask for a weave, ask for 5 foils, not a partial or full weave) avoid over processing. And, do not use that hot flat iron on your hair.
The mask that is the best (homemade), is over ripe bananas and olive oil.
I have tried several combinations. This works.
        1-2 bananas ripe
        2 tsp oilve oil
        mash in a bowl.
Apply to dry hair and work into scalp. Push it all up on your head and wait for 30 min. Then wash with a mild shampoo. You may have to wash twice. Then condition as usual. Towel dry. You will feel the difference, It shines, and feels thicker even the second day,. People comment. This is simple and healty, you won’t regret it.

  19. Hi my name’s Jamee, I’m a 17 year old girl who just graduated from high school. When growing up I was never told of the bad damaging affects of dying my hair so I did it for many years and now for the past 3 years my hair has only grown 2 inches and either breaks off or falls out. My hair has become very very thin and I now wear hair extensions everyday because of the insecurity I feel. I have very oily hair and don’t know what dry shampoo products are good for someone like me so I usually wash my hair everyday. I get my hair cut as regularly as it should but its still no use. I wash my hair in cold water and have used different techniques while washing, none have helped. I’m scared I’ll have to wear a wig when I’m older, and having to buy extensions and take care of them has become such a hassle. I feel like because I dyed my hair so much, it did something to my roots and I don’t know what to do. However, I do not have a very good eating diet and would like tips on that. I plan on using a lot of these natural remedies, if anyone has any input to helping me that would be extremely appreciated. :)

    • Hi I had the same problem as you and I have to tell you….you have to stop using shampoo and cut the dead parts of your hair off or little by little cut and inch off every two months. For shampoo, use egg white and yolk but separate them into different bowls first. take an electric beater and beat the egg white until it is extremly foamy and theres almost no liquid left…mostly “bubbles” and then add in the yolk and beat until well blended. massage this into every inch of your hair everyday and if you’re afraid of the smell use a drop of essential oil. for conditioner mix a ratio half conditioner and half raw honey but honestly you dont need conditioner after what I tell you. Also when washing out eggs wash out with ice cold water otherwise eggs will be cooked in the hair. The next treatment is proven to work and should only be done if you have no health problems whatsoever. Heat up oliive oil, coconut oil, or rosemary oil. no other oil will work and massage on scalp and ends until everything is covered in oil but not soaked in oil. dip you head upside down for four minites and then do whatever you want but leave the oil in your hair for 2 hours and then wash it out with the egg. Leave egg mixture on hair until it dries and then rinse out. YOU MUST NOT USE SHAMPOO and also OLIVE OIL TREATMENT EVERYDAY FOR A WEEK. NO LONGER THAN THAT AND THEN AFTER A WEEK OF BREAK REPEAT THE OLIVE OIL. your hair will grow 3-4 inches in a week if done right

      • Just a thought to all of those posting with thinning hair. First, have a blood test. Be sure your thyroid is not off wack. This solved part of my problem. But, my hair was damaged from weaves and stess. Now my hair is shoulder length, I insist on only 5 foils when I need a bit of a color lift. Hairdressers (if the are good), will do this for you at a reduced rate. On a trip to France I started using L’occitane hair repair shampoo in the hotel. My hair was thicker. Came home and started using their products for damaged hair. Expensive, but worth it. But, better still….I tried the banana & oilve old hair mask a month ago. This is even better (in terms of results) than L’occitane hair products. Now I use the banana, oilve oil hair mask a couple of times a week. It is simple and inexpensive. Forget the hair extensions. I am 65 and my hair is thicker and healthier than it was in my 40′s. I have fine blond hair.
(I use my L’occitane). You may have to wash twice. Then condition as usual. Towel dry. You will feel the difference, It shines, and feels thicker even the second day,. People comment. This is simple and healty, you won’t regret it. The women in my family are all using this combination now. My cousin’s husband said, “Your hair is thicker.” they have been married for 40 years. This works.

  44. Thanks it’s a very informative article. Whenever I use egg for my hair mixed with yogurt, it gets strong and satin-soft.

  45. Listen…make a paste one night before applying. The paste consists of Henna powder, reetha powder, Amla powder and shikakai powder. Now boil methi seeds and tea leaves in water. Now mix all the above powders together with the help of this water and yogurt. Keep it overnight. Right before applying, take one or two eggs according to the length of your hair and beat it properly. Now apply the mask. Keep it for 3-4 hours. Wash it with cold water. Only with cold water. No shampoo, nothing. Now oil your hair properly after your hair dries. Use shampoo the next day. Try once a week. You will see the difference in two months.
