How to Get Rid of Vaginal Odor

  • Indian Gooseberry

Indian gooseberry also known as Amla can also be used to get rid of unpleasant vaginal odor. It is a kind of natural blood purifier and organic cleaner and hence it can control the infection that causes vaginal odor. At the same time this natural ingredient can also be used to control the problematic leucorrhoea (vaginal discharge) which is one of the prime reasons behind the foul vaginal odor. You must eat Indian gooseberry daily, either in raw or in any other forms like pickles, amla powder and so on.

  • Citrus Fruits

Citrus foods can also be used to fight infections of the vaginal area more effectively and prevent vaginal odor. Citrus foods are rich in vitamin C, an immune system booster and it can also help to remove the harmful toxins present in the body. Once your immune system gets better your body will be able to fight against the harmful bacteria that causes vaginal odor. You must eat fruits such as grapes, oranges, sweet lime, lemons, grapefruits, pineapples and so on. These fruits will also help to fight against any kind of urinary tract infections.

  • To conclude, when you are trying to deal with vaginal odor, it is important to remain calm and collected. Just have some patience and choose some of the above mentioned remedies to get the best results. If you are not getting the desired results, try to consult a doctor immediately.

      • go to your doctor. you either have a yeast infection, bacterial vaginosis, or an std/sti. the best way to get rid of smelly discharge problems is to take a visit to your doctor’s office and take the antibiotics or advice they give you and follow it until they told you to. DON’T EVER STOP ANTIBIOTICS JUST BECAUSE YOU FEEL BETTER, IT WILL COME BACK AND IT WILL COME BACK QUICKLY.
        hope this helped!

      • Never douche. Never. It is linked to an increased risk of cervical cancer, bacterial vaginosis and uterine infections.

Most of the advice here is either bogus or dangerous. If it is a “well known fact” then there will be supporting research: state it.

Just because it sounds like a “natural” remedy doesn’t mean it works. Remember that we investigated all the natural folk remedies and the ones that worked became medicine.

If you have bodily concerns never take the advice of strangers on the internet or witherings of people about natural remedies: see your doctor.

White vinegar is good to use after your menstrual to make the vagina tight but for odor I recommend the summer’s eve wash and along with plain yogurt.

      • No no no! So sorry to step on toes, but douching is very bad for your vagina. You have bacteria inside your vagina that are not only beneficial, but they are absolutely necessary! When you douche you clean out that bacteria, and then they return with an angry vengeance. You will have an over abundance of bacteria and will end up with an infection and an even worse odor. Your vagina is very good at cleaning itself. You should only clean the outer parts of your vagina. Having an OBGYN in the family certainly helps. Use a mild soap on your outer lips and always wipe front to back!

        • I wouldn’t recommend douching after taking the yogurt tampon out because it could upset the natural pH again. My suggestion would be to take a quick, warm bath with a cup of apple cider vinegar (or baking soda) after the tampon is removed. If access to a bath is not available, wipe with a clean washcloth dampened with warm water. If the yogurt is left inside for a while, it will not cause any harm. Hope this was helpful to you, dear.

    7. From someone that battled vaginal odor for YEARS, none of these home remedies work. The only thing that works is Metronidazole. You have to get it from your gynecologist, or go to a planned parenthood or free clinic if you don’t have insurance. It comes in gel or pill form (I recommend the vaginal gel form called Metrogel because the pill makes you nauseous). The smell disappears on the very 1st day you use it but you have to continue use for 5-7 days to make sure all the bacteria is gone. Also avoid allowing your boyfriend to ejaculate in you as that usually triggers the odor to come back. I’ve been odor free now for about 4 years

      Reply
      • Sometimes antibiotics are needed, but this bacteria is tenacious and usually comes back. I suggest even if using antibiotics to use natural remedies afterwards to keep it clean. This will help keep the bad bacteria away and keep the pH at a healthy level.
I eat yogurt after taking antibiotics. One thing that helped me, changed my life, was rinsing with water after every time I went to the bathroom. Like a bidet; I used a plant watering pot. This has done the most to keep me healthy there. If I start to get a little ‘off’, I rinse with chamomile tea. Chamomile tea rinse is another great help for smell or bacterial problems.

        • The TV show “The Doctors” had a segment on “How to keep the Vagina odor under control”…believe it or not they said to rinse using water after every bathroom visit. They even gave all the women a rinse spray bottle to use. I wish I had written down the name of the bottle because I would like to purchase one for myself.

        • You are right, this is a sensitive issue. Example: When you take a bath and you see a ring in the tub when the water is gone…does that mean you were dirty? Or does it mean the body is getting rid of old dead cells? Ans: the ring mean you were getting rid of old dead cells. When the vagina smell…is it normal or abnormal? The answer can be “YES” and it can be “NO”. Everyone is different and the body react to situations in a different way. The vagina is no different…it has to be dealt with according to the situation at hand.

She would use it with the mothers to control the bleeding and spotting after the delivery. The real purpose was to tighten the vagina. Put a very tiny piece wrapped in cotton and insert it in the vagina….it will really tighten that area…i used it for curiosity and it worked.

That helped with the odor, but since I quit smoking!
BUT! – I have been eating non stop subconsciously for the replacement.
Only realised in the last couple of days! So I’ve cut down.
Hard to eat healthy as I am a young student on a budget, but I am trying my best.
I will be trying the white vinegar trick when I get some.
Attempting bath remedies tomorrow afternoon/night when I get home (in bed with the laptop)
Finishing off the last of the oranges/fruits for breakfast tomorrow.
I will try others if this continues! DEFINITELY diet that plays a part!!!

    30. Hi ladies!
As a general rule, I recommend metronidazole for bad-smelling vaginal discharge that fits the description of BV. Metronidazole can cause yeast infection, so what I tell my patients is to first do a course of metro, and THEN a course of Diflucan – 150 mg tablet on day 1 and on day 3 AFTER the cure with metronidzole is over. Usually works like a charm for my patients :)

That being said. A gynaecological exam is something you should have done, they can take samples to figure out which bacteria you have, if any, if you have a yeast infection, if you have an STD etc., and you can get your pap-smear done.

Using lactobacilli are great when on antibiotics, and if you are very bothered by odor, you can take a course of lactobacilli vaginal capsules after each period just to “clean up” in there.

I do not recommend douching as it will harm the natural bacterial/fungal flora in your vajayjay ;)

I have had these problems my self, but they are far gone now. If i feel there might be a yeast infection sneaking around the corner, I just take 150 mg diflucan and I’m good to go.

      Good luck :)

    54. Hi Ladies,
I never had an odor problem anywhere, but since going through menopause I have this sweet odor coming from the vagina area, I don’t like it. I don’t use deodorant under my arms, because it makes me itch so I started using a natural deodorant, salt crystals I bought at a health food store many years ago. It works great for under the arms! I still sweat, but the salt prevents bacteria from forming, so there isn’t any odor under my arms. I didn’t use the salt crystal under my arms one day and I had the same sweet odor from my under arms and realized that the odor from the Vagina is the same that was under my arms. I have tried rolling the salt crystal on the skin around the vagina and the odor stopped. After menopause I started sweating in more places. I feel the sweating must be due to the hormonal changes. The salt crystal is a little irritating so I hesitate using it in the vagina area. I will try the other natural remedies to see if they work. I feel better figuring out why I smell. It’s just another symptom of menopause. It’s not something that is coming from inside the vagina, in my case it’s from the sweat on the outside. I hope this helps. It really helped me when I figured it out.

My practice nurse when I went for a smear test kept telling me I had thrush as she could see the discharge at the neck of the womb. She did a test and sent it off to be tested and it came back negative I did not have thrush infection. The discharge I used to get was quite normal for most women. When I went through the menopause the discharge got much better not so often and much less heavy. Now I am post-menopausal I have noticed it has changed again. Sometimes it was very uncomfortable as it made my panties wet. I now use a feminine wash and sometimes wipes the ones without to much perfume. And a pantie liner although you have to be careful of those as they can make you sore I have found. It must be horrible to suffer bad odour to I never get that myself thankfully. You do have to be careful not to make things worse by upsetting the delicate balance in that area.

    74. I tried the baking soda method by pouring some in my bath water and the odor was instantly gone. My vagina doesn’t smell as strong as it used to and it feels a whole lot cleaner down there.

    76. I also experiencing the same way. What I have observed was after a sexual intercourse or having sex the fluids that comes out form each other brought a bad smell among ladies. Or if there are hormone imbalance the secretion turns into bad smell. I don’t know if these observations are right but whatever reasons why we women are battling in these kind of problems even hygienic was observed, hope to be solved very soon.

    78. Having a bad vaginal discharge for almost 2 years now, I REAALLY want to get rid of it. It’s been sooo embarrassing, especially during class because it will start smelling and people will say stuff. Humiliating. I’ve been to the doctors multiple times but I always get back the same results…no infection, no STI/STD. They really don’t know why my body is producing this terrible (fishy) smelling discharge. They didn’t want to prescribe any medications to me because they didn’t want to mess with my pH levels incase the antibiotics might have started a real infection down there. I tried the baking soda remedy yesterday by drinking a cup of warm water and a teaspoon of it and I threw up about 4 times later that night. I’ve also sat in half a cup of baking soda for 20 mins for the past two days and that has worked a little but I’m afraid it won’t be permanent :( i eat really healthy, drink plenty of water, and exercise a good amount but there seems to be no solution to this. It’s stressful, making my life awful and I need help but my mom and I don’t know what to do anymore. Help anyone?? I’m 15 and have had my period for 3 and a half years now if that helps anything. And my discharge is daily.

    79. I Just got married a couple months ago and I just got paragard IUD. So we thought yay no more condoms right? I really prefer not to use them especially because my husband and I are both clean and have no std or anything. So after just the first time of having sex without one I got this horrible smell thing I never use to have a problem with ever!! Its depressing. Especially because the second time it smelled worse! Does anyone on here know if I will ever be able to have unprotected sex again? Because I’m tired of struggling. Either I’m struggling with a both control or a smell or something and I just wanna start enjoying intimacy rather then getting angry about the problems every time. I tried some home remedies and they work but it always comes back. Is there anything preventative?? :(
